	Originating in 1961, the Player's 200 was funded and promoted by one of Canada's largest tobacco companies with organizational help from the Canadian Racing Drivers' Association. In 1977 a two-class (Category I and II) system was introduced to the Trans Am series. 	The 1978 USAC Champ Car event at Mosport was particularly unique, as it was one of only three races in the championship that were contested on road courses.
