The start of race two (Sunday morning) for the 2026 Miata Canada Cup at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Getting a jump on the field in the pole-sitter, Kurt Langeveldt, driving the No. 17 Can-Saf Auto Repairs Mazda Miata. Behind Langeveldt is the other front row starter and the winner of Saturday’s contest, Shawn Shuiskiy. Trailing the leaders is the No. 36 RedGreen Racing Mazda Miata of Owen Clarke and Matt Gauthier in the No. 13 Roadsport Auto Group Mazda Miata.
Shawn Shuiskiy finished seventh in last year’s Mazda Canada Cup, with his best results being a pair of third places in the season opener at CTMP. In the first weekend of 2026, Shuiskiy gave notice that he was a threat for the title. He started on the pole for race one and lost a few spots at the start, but moved back out front for the win. On Sunday, his job was more difficult, as he started second and fourth, but he still collected two victories.
The best of the rest this weekend was the inaugural Mazda Canada Cup champion, Owen Clarke. Clarke, who drives the No. 36 RedGreen Racing Mazda Miata, started Saturday afternoon’s contest on the outside of the front row and lost a position to Kurt Langeveldt to finish third. The next day, he started third but passed Langeveldt for a runner-up result. In the finale, Clarke was penalized for jumping the start and was classified with a third-place finish.
The final race of the weekend and the pole-sitter, Owen Clarke, in the No. 36 RedGreen Racing Mazda Miata, leads fifteen competitors through Moss Corner during the first lap. Behind Clarke is the No. 17 Can-Saf Auto Repairs Mazda Miata driven by second-place starter Kurt Langeveldt. Trailing Langeveldt is the winner of the first two races, Shawn Shuiskiy, in the No. 14 Mazda Miata. Clarke and Langeveldt would be penalized one position for jumping the start.
Last season’s Mazda Canada Cup champion was Matt Gauthier. Gauthier qualified third for the weekend’s first contest in the No. 13 Roadsport Auto Group Mazda Miata. Unable to hold off a hard-charging Kurt Langeveldt, he finished fourth. Sunday morning, Gauthier was gridded fourth but passed Langeveldt late in the contest for a third-place finish. He was the runner-up in the weekend’s final race after Langeveldt, and Owen Clarke were penalized for jumping the start.
Kurt Langeveldt waited until the final contest of 2025 to collect his first victory of the season. He qualified fourth fastest for this year’s first race in the No. 17 Can-Saf Auto Repairs Mazda Miata. However, he moved into the lead early but was unable to hold off the eventual winner, finishing second. On Sunday, Langeveldt started on the pole, but slid down the order for a fourth-place result. In the finale, he was penalized one position for jumping the start and finished fifth.
