The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888R.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A – This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2026. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B – This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacturing date for the individual car, not the model, is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The second weekend of the 2026 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series was conducted at Shannonville Motorsport Park during the SMP Cup. The first race of the event was contested on Shannonville’s Pro Layout, while Sunday’s races were staged on the Long Track.

The pace lap for race two on Sunday morning and a slim field of seven Toyo Tires F1600 Championship drivers enter Shannonville Motorsport Park’s final corner. On the pole is the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7 of Saturday’s winner, Jenson Raybould. Sharing the front row with Raybould is the No. 12 Jaftrman's Garage Van Diemen RF94 of Graham Lobban. Immediately behind the leaders are F1600B competitors Michael Gayowski and Steve Bodrug.
Jenson Raybould, who shared this year’s Bob McCallum Scholarship, swept the weekend’s proceedings at Shannonville Motorsport Park. Raybould put the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7 on the pole for race one and grabbed the win. However, Sunday was more challenging for the rookie. In both events, he came under pressure from the No. 12 Jaftrman's Garage Van Diemen RF94 of Graham Lobban. Raybould kept Lobban behind him and, with the results, leads the F1600A standings.
F1600B competitor Michael Gayowski matched Jenson Raybould’s performance at Shannonville Motorsport Park. This season, Gayowski returns to the seat after many years of coaching. He drives the No. 20 YourMoneyDegree.com Van Diemen RF92. Gayowski kicked off his 2026 campaign at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a pair of runner-up results. In the second weekend, he collected three class victories and moves to the top of the category standings.
Keeping the series newcomer, Jenson Raybould, honest all weekend was Toyo Tires F1600 veteran Graham Lobban. Lobban pilots the No. 12 Jaftrman's Garage Van Diemen RF94. He qualified second for the weekend’s first contest but could not match Raybould’s pace and finished in the runner-up spot. In both of Sunday’s races, Lobban challenged Raybould. In fact, he spent a short time in the lead; however, Lobban earned a pair of second-place results.
Another series regular entered the SMP Cup was Keith Lobban, Graham's brother. He also has a wealth of Toyo Tires F1600 Series experience driving the No. 42 Deep Thought Van Diemen RF98. Unlike his brother, Keith found himself competing with the F1600B competitors Michael Gayowski and Steve Bodrug. Both drivers beat him in race one. The next day, Lobban finished third in class behind Gayowski and is now third in the points chase.
The top three F1600A competitors for round six of the 2026 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship at Shannonville Motorsport Park. In the center is the winner from Brian Graham Racing, Jenson Raybould. With his teammate, Christian Menezes, absent, Raybould takes a commanding lead in the standings. On the right is the runner-up, Graham Lobban, who moves to second in the championship. The final position is occupied by the third-place finisher, Keith Lobban.
