The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) introduced the Formula Regional (originally called Formula 3) concept in 2017 as the next step for Formula 4 competitors.
The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA Pro Racing) debuted the Formula Regional Americas Championship in 2018.
The American series is aligned with the FIA and partners Honda Performance Development, Hankook Tire America and Ligier Automotive. Drivers compete in the Ligier JS F3, designed and manufactured by Ligier Automotive for the American series. The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque. The suspension design is common to most open-wheel race cars: front and double wishbone, push-rod actuated shock absorbers, and springs with anti-roll bars. The Ligier is powered by a turbocharged Honda K20C1 engine, which produces just over 300 horsepower. The motor is fitted with a six-speed sequential semi-automatic transmission. The entire package weighs 1,430-pounds. The 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship consists of eight weekends, with three races held at each venue. The exceptions are the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Virginia International Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park, which will host two contests.
Rounds fifteen, sixteen and seventeen of the 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship took place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers contested three races on the ten-turn, 2.459-mile road course.

Brady Golan entered the sixth weekend second in the points chase and left it as the new points leader. He qualified second for the weekend’s first race driving the No. 40 Toney Driver Development Ligier JS F3. When championship leader Evagoras Papasavvas encountered problems, Golan grabbed the win. On Saturday, he finished third after starting second. In the finale, Golan finished a distant eighth but remained at the top of the standings. |

Kekai Hauanio won his first race of the season in round seven at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Since then, however, his best result has been a fifth-place finish. The driver of the No. 29 N-E-Where Transport Ligier JS F3 opened the weekend by qualifying third, but he finished a disappointing ninth after spinning. In race two, Hauanio started seventh and moved into the lead on lap 14 to win. On Sunday, he retired with a mechanical failure. |

Evagoras Papasavvas was the fastest qualifier for Friday’s contest in the No. 71 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3, but he was the race’s first retirement after crashing. He started on the pole again, yet he finished twelfth due to a mechanical failure. For the second consecutive race, he failed to score points. Papasavvas redeemed himself in the finale with a victory; however, he had fallen to second in the championship standings. |
