The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of seven weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 15-18 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • May 29-31 - St. LAC SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 18-21 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 24-26 - BARC Open Wheel Invitational - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 7-9 - Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres - Trois-Rivieres
  • August 21-23 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 18-20 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888R.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A – This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2026. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B – This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacturing date for the individual car, not the model, is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The fourth weekend of the 2026 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the BARC Open Wheel Invitational. Drivers collected points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of the weekend's second contest and fifteen Toyo Tires F1600 competitors file through Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s turn one on Sunday morning. Leading the pack is the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7 of the points leader and yesterday’s winner, Jenson Raybould. Behind Raybould is last year’s champion and the second-place starter, Stewart Ross, driving the No. 67 Britain West Motorsports Mygale SJ 12.
Jenson Raybould is the F1600A points leader, with five wins to his credit. On the BARC Open Wheel Invitational weekend, he added to the total but not without a challenge from last year’s champion, Stewart Ross. In the event’s first contest, the pair exchanged the lead with Raybould grabbing the first place on the final lap. In race two they delivered the same results but not before Raybould fell to fourth. In the afternoon, Raybould finished second.
The defending Toyo Tires F1600 champion, Stewart Ross, made his first appearance of the season at the BARC Open Wheel Invitational. Ross was still on form and put the familiar No. 67 Britain West Motorsports Mygale SJ12 on the pole for the weekend’s first contest. He battled with the points leader, Jenson Raybould, before finishing second. Sunday morning had a similar outcome. In the finale, Ross started second but grabbed the win.
The opening lap of the weekend's last Toyo Tires F1600 contest saw fourteen starters head into corner two. Leading the pack are the two fastest qualifiers, Jenson Raybould in the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7 and the No. 67 Britain West Motorsports Mygale SJ 12 of Stewart Ross. Behind them is the No. 12 Van Diemen RF94 of Graham Lobban and his brother Keith driving the No. 42 Van Diemen RF98.
Despite collecting a DNS at Shannonville, Steve Bodrug leads the F1600B category. The driver of the No. 41 Van Diemen RF91 qualified first in class and fourth overall for the event's first race. Bodrug finished third and earned the category victory. Sunday morning, he started third but was passed by Graham Lobban. On lap 7, Lobban spun in turn one and was hit by Bodrug. Bodrug’s car was too badly damaged to start the final race.
Last year’s F1600B champion, Andrew Mason, drives the No. 32 Mason Racing Van Diemen RF90. Mason didn’t make his first appearance of the season until the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix weekend, where he was unable to start any of the races. Mason returned for the BARC Open Wheel Invitational but finished last in the weekend’s first contest. The next day, he redeemed himself with a class victory. Unfortunately, his weekend ended with an accident.
One of the awards available at the BARC Open Wheel Invitational was the Oliver Clubine Cup. This accolade goes to the Toyo Tires F1600B competitor earning the most points across the weekend’s three races. This year’s honour went to the driver of the No. 38 Racicot Racing Van Diemen RF91, Lee Racicot. Racicot used consistency to claim the award. After collecting a pair of third-place results, he won the event's final contest.
