Spec Miata is a popular class that originated in the United States. The category is intended to allow competitors to race in a low-cost environment by using a single marque with minimal modifications.

This year, the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs Ontario Region introduced this concept and called it the Miata Canada Cup. The rules are similar to those used by the Sports Car Club of America and the National Auto Sport Association. Miatas and MX-5s manufactured from 1990 to the present are eligible, and based on their vintage and level of preparation, they are put into one of three classes.

  • MMC1 - These are the Miatas produced from 1990 to 2005 and have the Mazda designation NA or NB.
  • MCCU - This is the unlimited division and includes all other Miatas (2006 to 2015).

Restrictor plates are required on some of the newer, larger displacement vehicles to equalize engine performance. The transmission and final drive ratios remain primarily as delivered by the factory.

The suspension components must use the stock mounting points; however, shock absorbers, springs and sway bars may be upgraded. Based on the class, brakes, wheels and tires are subject to different regulations.

A car's final weight, including driver, is determined by engine code and displacement.

  • NA 1.6 liter engine - 2,275 lbs.
  • NA 1.8 liter engine - 2,400 lbs.
  • NB1 1.8 liter engine - 2,400 lbs.
  • NB2 l.8 liter engine - 2,450 lbs.

The 2025 season consists of four race weekends. During each event, there are three contests.

  • May 10-11 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • May 31 - June 1 - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • August 23-24 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • October 4-5 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The final weekend of the 2025 Miata Canada Cup season coincided with the end of the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs – Ontario Region road racing schedule. The final three races were held during the Celebration of Motorsport at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The start of the weekend's second race (Sunday morning) and twenty-two Miata Canada Cup competitors funnel into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's turn one. Leading the charge is the pole-sitter, Matt Gauthier, in the No. 13 Roadsport Auto Group  Mazda Miata. Behind Gauthier is the No. 17 Can-Saf Auto Repairs Mazda Miata driven by third-place starter Kurt Langeveldt. On the outside is title contender Owen Clarke is the No. 36 Mazda Miata.
Entering the final weekend, just two drivers were capable of capturing the title – Matt Gauthier and Owen Clarke. Gauthier didn't secure his first victory until mid-season. Then the driver of the No. 13 Roadsport Auto Group Mazda Miata began racking up first-place results. Gauthier won the first two contests at the Celebration event, but he was knocked off course by Clarke during the finale. After the incident, Clarke withdrew from the race and conceded the championship to Gauthier.
After the first six rounds of the 2025 Miata Canada Cup, the defending champion, Owen Clarke, had a perfect record and appeared to be set for another title. However, at Calabogie Motorsport Park, he finished second to Matt Gauthier and the trend continued. Clarke entered the Celebration with the points lead, but finished second to Gauthier in both races. In the final contest of the year, Clarke was given a two-lap penalty for failure to yield racing room, which sealed his fate.
Kurt Langeveldt, who drives the No. 17 Can-Saf Auto Repairs Mazda Miata, has been chasing the point leaders all year. At the Celebration of Motorsport weekend, he finished behind Matt Gauthier and Owen Clarke in races one and two. On Sunday afternoon, there was contact between the two leaders, allowing Langeveldt to move into first place and take the win. Based on seven podium finishes, one of which was a victory, Langeveldt ended 2025 third in the final standings.
The No. 68 TWOth Autosport Mazda Miata was driven by Brad Ranson at the Celebration of Motorsport event. Ranson began his 2025 Miata Canada Cup campaign midway through the season at Calabogie Motorsport Park. His best result of the weekend was a sixth place. At Canadian Tire Motorsport, Ranson started race one on the pole and finished fourth. In the next contest, he was disqualified, but redeemed himself Sunday afternoon with a third-place result after starting twentieth.
Ryder Brown drove the No. 86 Ryde Automotive Appraisals Mazda Miata. Brown's season got off to a slow start, but at Calabogie Motorsport Park, he earned second and third-place finishes. At the Celebration event, Brown qualified seventh and finished fifth Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, he started fifth but was sixth at the checker. Brown ended the season with a runner-up result. With a record that included three podiums, he finished fourth in the championship.
