The Ontario Sportsman Series debuted in 2007. The series’ first champion was Steve Robblee, a former NASCAR competitor and two-time CASCAR Super Series champion.

The Ontario Sportsman Series season opens on May 16 at Delaware Speedway and concludes nine races later on September 19 at Sunset Speedway.

  • May 16 - Delaware Speedway
  • May 31 - Full Throttle Motor Speedway
  • June 14 - Sunset Speedway
  • June 28 - Sauble Speedway
  • July 11 - Delaware Speedway
  • July 26 - Full Throttle Motor Speedway
  • August 9 - Peterborough Speedway
  • August 23 - Flamboro Speedway
  • September 6 - Full Throttle Motor Speedway
  • September 19 - Sunset Speedway

The cars competing in the Ontario Sportsman Series are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. The chassis features a steel tube frame design (with an outside diameter of no less than 1.75” and a wall thickness of 0.095”) and is covered with a fiberglass body, weighing a minimum of 3050 lbs. Body styles eligible for competition are:

  • Chevrolet Camaro
  • Chevrolet Impala
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo
  • Dodge Avenger
  • Dodge Intrepid
  • Dodge Challenger
  • Dodge Charger
  • Ford Fusion
  • Ford Mustang
  • Ford Taurus
  • Pontiac Grand Prix

The series allows teams to use crate or built engines. An extensive list of rules is used to maintain parity and reduce expenses. These carbureted eight-cylinder motors produce approximately 550 horsepower. Cars are estimated to have a top speed of 160 mph, depending on the gearing. Brakes are limited to original North American four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes as supplied by the manufacturer. However, Howe Racing brake calipers are allowed.

All cars compete on American Race-spec tires, which are mounted on 15” diameter, 8” wide steel wheels.

The final round of the 2025 Ontario Sportsman Series was held at Sunset Speedway during the track’s ‘The Last Dance’ event. Drivers were scheduled to compete in a one-hundred-lap contest around the 1/3-mile banked asphalt oval in a race called the Iron Man 100.

The race ended under yellow flag conditions with three laps remaining due to a time curfew.

Fifteen Ontario Sportsman Series competitors line up on Sunset Speedway’s back straight for the season’s final contest. On the pole is Connor James in the No. 33 Two Speed Motorsports Ford Mustang. Sharing the front row with James is the No. 19 Trevco-prepared Dodge Avenger driven by Kevin Trevellin. Behind the leaders are the No. 9 McGlynn Motorsports Ford Fusion of Shawn McGlynn and Todd Sheppard driving the No. 27 Dodge Challenger.
As with many other Ontario Sportsman Series events this year, Connor James dominated the proceedings. James started by putting the No. 33 Two Speed Motorsports Ford Mustang on the pole. At the drop of the green flag, he controlled the race, and after ninety-seven laps, James collected his eighth victory of the year. Before the finale, it was a forgone conclusion that James would secure the title, but the win cemented the championship.
The Ontario Sportsman Series four-time champion Shawn McGlynn drives the No. 9 McGlynn Motorsports Ford Fusion. McGlynn opened his 2025 campaign with a victory at Delaware Speedway. However, since that event, he hasn’t shown the same speed until late in the season, beginning with Flamboro. At Sunset Speedway, he qualified third with an ill-handling car but passed Kevin Trevellin for a runner-up result.
The Brimstone Games Racing team has hosted a number of different drivers in the No. 47 Dodge Challenger.  The list includes Sean Mangin, Amber Balcaen and Todd Sheppard. Sheppard performed the driving duties at the Iron Man 100. He was the fourth fastest during the qualifying session. In the race, he got past Kevin Trevellin for a third-place finish. This exceeded his season’s best result, which was a fourth at Delaware Speedway.
Second in the Ontario Sportsman Series championship standings is Brendan Patrick. Patrick’s record includes six podium results, of which one was a victory at Peterborough Speedway. In the final round at Sunset Speed, he qualified tenth fastest, driving the No. 02 Patrick Brothers Racing Chevrolet Camaro. During the race, Patrick advanced six positions before receiving the checkered flag on lap ninety-seven.
The winner of the Iron Man 100 at Sunset Speedway and 2025 Ontario Sportsman Series champion, Connor James, is surrounded by his crew, family, friends, and probably people who lost their way trying to find the Beer Garden. On his way to the title, the former APC United Late Model and NASCAR Canada competitor racked up an impressive record of eight victories during the season.
