The Ontario Sportsman Series debuted in 2007. The series’ first champion was Steve Robblee, a former NASCAR competitor and two-time CASCAR Super Series champion.

The Ontario Sportsman Series season opens on May 16 at Delaware Speedway and concludes nine races later on September 19 at Sunset Speedway.

The cars competing in the Ontario Sportsman Series are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. The chassis features a steel tube frame design (with an outside diameter of no less than 1.75” and a wall thickness of 0.095”) and is covered with a fiberglass body, weighing a minimum of 3050 lbs. Body styles eligible for competition are:

  • Chevrolet Camaro
  • Chevrolet Impala
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo
  • Dodge Avenger
  • Dodge Intrepid
  • Dodge Challenger
  • Dodge Charger
  • Ford Fusion
  • Ford Mustang
  • Ford Taurus
  • Pontiac Grand Prix

The series allows teams to use crate or built engines. An extensive list of rules is used to maintain parity and reduce expenses.   These carbureted eight-cylinder motors produce approximately 550 horsepower. Cars are estimated to have a top speed of 160 mph, depending on the gearing. Brakes are limited to original North American four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes as supplied by the manufacturer. However, Howe Racing brake calipers are allowed.

All cars compete on American Race-spec tires, which are mounted on 15” diameter, 8” wide steel wheels.

Round eight of the 2025 Ontario Sportsman Series was held at Flamboro Speedway. Drivers competed in a 100-lap contest around Flamboro’s 1/3-mile semi-banked asphalt oval in an event sponsored by London Recreational Racing.

The pace lap for the Rec & Ride 100 at Flamboro Speedway. In control of the field of thirteen starters is the pole-sitter, Connor James, in the No. 33 Two Speed Motorsports-prepared Ford Mustang. Beside James is the No. 9 McGlynn Motorsports Ford Fusion driven by Shawn McGlynn. In row two is the No. 31 KG Racing Chevrolet Camaro of Flamboro regular Kevin Gallant. Joining Gallant is Derek McCullough in the No. 38 Dodge Challenger.
The points leader, Connor James, entered the Ontario Sportsman Series with extensive stock car experience obtained in the APC United Late Model and NASCAR Canada Series. James was the fastest in qualifying at Flamboro and drove the No. 33 Elevated Workplace Safety Ford Mustang. However, it was Shawn McGlynn who grabbed the lead early. But it wasn’t long before James moved to the front, and despite late-race pressure, he grabbed the victory.
Finishing in the runner-up position by 0.406 seconds was Shawn McGlynn. McGlynn drives the No. 9 McGlynn Motorsports Ford Fusion. He made a visit to Flamboro the previous weekend with his Late Model Chevrolet Camaro and finished third in one of the Pro Late Model features. At round eight of the championship, McGlynn followed Connor James for much of the contest. He attempted to take the lead on a late race restart but was unsuccessful.
Third in the 2025 Ontario Sportsman Series points chase is Sean Mangin. Mangin pilots the No. 47 Brimstone Games Racing Dodge Challenger. At Flamboro Speedway, he was gridded in the seventh position for the one-hundred-lap London Recreational Rec & Ride 100. During the race, Mangin moved up the lap chart as his competition crashed or retired. At the checkered flag, he was one lap behind the leaders in third place.
Kevin Gallant has a lot of laps around Flamboro Speedway as he competes in the track’s Pro Late Model championship. Gallant, driving the No. 31 KG Racing Chevrolet Camaro, was third fastest during the qualifying session. In the race, he remained in contact with the leaders. However, late in the contest, Gallant began losing gear oil. He spun in turn three and was given the ‘meatball flag’ by officials. He was classified with a sixth-place result.
The top three finishers for round eight of the Ontario Sportsman Series at Flamboro. In the center is the winner of the Rec & Ride 100, Connor James. James, who is the championship leader, padded his points tally with only two rounds remaining. On the left is the runner-up, Shawn McGlynn. McGlynn has four Ontario Sportsman titles but is competing on a limited basis this year. The final spot is occupied by the third-place finisher, Sean Mangin.
