The cars competing in the NASCAR Canada Series are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. The chassis is a steel tube frame design covered with a fiberglass body and must weigh no less than 3050 lbs. Body styles are from manufacturers such as Dodge (Challenger), Ford (Mustang) and Chevrolet (Camaro). Engine type and displacement are dictated by the make and model of the vehicle. The carbureted eight-cylinder motors produce approximately 550 horsepower. Cars are estimated to have a top speed of 160 mph, depending on the gearing.

Round one of the 2025 NASCAR Canada Series was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete on the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course for fifty-one laps in an event titled the Clarington 200.

The start of the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for round one of the 2025 NASCAR Canada Series. The pole-sitter, Kyle Steckly, leads twenty-eight qualifiers in the No. 22 MBS Motorsports / Sierra Excavating / APC Chevrolet Camaro. Behind Steckly are the No. 80 St. Hubért / UPS Store / Bet GRW Chevrolet Camaro of Alex Tagliani and Kevin Lacroix driving the No. 74 Adaptive One Caliper Chevrolet Camaro.
Marc-Antione Camirand, the 2024 NASCAR Canada Series champion, gave notice in the practice session that he was ready to defend his title. The No. 96 GM Paille / Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet Camaro driver topped the time sheet Saturday afternoon. However, in qualifying, Camirand lost some speed and was fourth fastest.  He remained in contention during the race, and on the last lap, Camirand tagged Gary Klutt in corner three for the pass and win.
For the second consecutive year, Gary Klutt was the runner-up in the NASCAR Canada Series opening round. Klutt scored his first and only NASCAR Canada Series victory in 2015 at CTMP. He qualified sixth in the No. 59 Autologic / Hofmann Plastics Dodge Challenger and moved into first on lap-45. Klutt would lead until the last lap when he was bumped by Marc-Antione Camirand. Despite a run through the grass, he finished second.
The ‘feel-good story of the weekend’ was the performance of the No. 98 Curb Records  Ford Mustang driven by Malcolm Strachan. The team is owned by a long-time participant in the NASCAR Canada Series, Jim Bray. Bray’s low-budget effort has entered many events but has not had the success they enjoyed on Sunday. Strachan started eleventh. He led the most laps during the race and finished third, the team’s best result.
Alex Guenette won the series Rookie of the Year title in 2013. In 2022, Guenette picked up his first series win at Trois-Rivieres. Last season, he completed a partial schedule with Team 22. Guennette begins 2025 in the No. 39 Bet GRW Chevrolet Camaro and was fifth fastest in qualifying. Late in the contest, he was chasing Malcolm Strachan for the lead. However, Guentte lost spots to Marc-Antoine Camirand and Gary Klutt to finish fourth.
L.P. Dumoulin is a three-time champion of the NASCAR Canada Series. He returned for another season driving the No. 47 WeatherTech Dodge Challenger. Dumoulin collected his first victory in 2013 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He qualified thirteenth; however, the team made an unauthorized change to the car, and he had to start from the rear of the field. Dumoulin advanced during the race and finished in the fifth position.
The starting grid at the Clarington 200 included five past NASCAR Canada Series champions. One of these drivers was Andrew Ranger, who has three titles to his credit. Ranger is piloting the No. 27 GM Paille / Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet Camaro for the fourth consecutive year. In practice, he was 0.103 seconds slower than his teammate, Marc-Antoine Camirand, and qualified eight. Ranger would advance two spots in the race, crossing the finish line in sixth.
It was a disappointing weekend for Kyle Steckly, the son of four-time series champion Scott Steckly. In addition to his NASCAR commitment, Kyle competed in this year’s APC United Late Model Series opening round at Sunset Speedway. He started the weekend with optimism by putting the No. 22 Sierra Excavating Chevrolet Camaro on the pole. Unfortunately, his engine failed after thirteen laps. At Sunset, Steckly finished fifteenth.
