The popular Mini Stock category provides new drivers with an opportunity to participate in an entry-level stock car class. Rules are written to keep costs to a minimum.

The Mini Stock division is open to any 2010 and older approved 4-cylinder automobile having an engine no larger than 2500cc. The cars may be front or rear-wheel drive. Rules prohibit convertibles, 4-wheel drives, trucks, BMW, Audi, Saab turbo, V-Tec, supercharged or rotary engines. Also, excluded are mid or rear-engine vehicles. The weight of the cars is determined by the engine displacement and cylinder head design.

The body must retain its stock appearance - no chopping, channeling or sectioning is allowed.

Safety is a major concern in this division. Mini Stocks are fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, five-point quick-release belts (shoulder and lap), aluminum racing seat and a window net.

Some of the makes and models typically raced by competitors include the Ford Mustang, Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra, Honda Civic and Pontiac Sunfire.

A total of eight Mini Stock heats and a consolation race were required to set the twenty-eight starting positions for the feature. The contest was set at sixty-seven laps around ‘Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile,’ in memory of former Mini Stock racer Melissa Bullen.

The start of the sixty-seven lap feature for the Mini Stock division at Peterborough’s Autumn Colour Classic. Jumping into the lead is the outside front row starter and local racer James Townsend in the No. 14 Elliot Automotive Acura Integra. Beside Townsend is the No. 7 McGinty Toman Electric Acura Integra driven by Flamboro Speedway’s 2025 Mini Stock track champion, Matt Young. Immediately behind the leaders are Mike Nelson and Jacob Sutcliffe.
Doug Butler only enters high-profile Mini Stock events. He swept three specials at three different tracks in August. Last weekend, Butler competed at Frostoberfest but was disqualified after a heat race after his tires were found to be out of spec. The Autumn Colours Classic would allow the driver of the No. 10B R.S.A. Autoparts Nissan 240SX to redeem himself. Butler started fifth and moved into the lead on lap 16 for the victory.
Perhaps the best-looking car at the Autumn Colours Classic was the No. 14 Elliot Automotive Acura Integra driven by James Townsend. The Fall livery theme on Townsend Acura was created by local high school students. The driver won both his heats and started the feature on the outside of the front row. Townsend vaulted into the lead but lost the top spot to Doug Butler on lap 16 and finished second by a margin of 0.713 seconds.
Finishing third at the Autumn Colours Classic Mini Stock event was Jacob Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe, who was this season’s Sunset Speedway Mini Stock track champion, drives the No. 27 MacMillan Motorsports Ford Mustang. He participated in last weekend’s Frostoberfest at Flambloro Speedway and was the runner-up. At Peterborough, Sutcliffe collected a second place and a win in the heats. A pass on Shawn Taylor gave him the third-place result.
Shawn Taylor was fresh off a victory at the Frostoberfest event. At Peterborough, he finished fourth in the No. 76 GM Electric Nissan 240SX, but failed to pass the post-race technical inspection and was disqualified. All drivers moved up a position, with Will Gibbons inheriting a fourth-place finish. The driver of the No. 10 England Tire Honda CRX earned a third-place finish and victory in the heats. Gibbons charged from the fourteenth spot for his result.
The top three finishers of the sixty-seven lap Mini Stock event at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic. In the center is the winner, Doug Butler. Butler’s last Autumn Colours Classic victory came in 2023. The ‘best of the rest’ was local racer James Townsend, who finished in the runner-up spot. Finishing in the third position was Sunset Speedway’s 2025 Mini Stock track champion, Jacob Sutcliffe.
