Now in its thirty-fifth year, the Ontario Stock Car Association of Asphalt Racers (OSCAAR) is responsible for sanctioning two divisions: Modified and Hot Rod.

On November 1, 2022, it was announced that OSCAAR had merged with the United Racing Series. The relationship increases OSCAAR’s resources and allows the United Racing Series to expand its brand and footprint in motorsports.

Ten races are on the 2025 OSCAAR Hot Rod schedule.

  • May 31 - Flamboro Speedway
  • June 14 - Sauble Speedway
  • June 28 - Delaware Speedway
  • July 12 - Full Throttle Speedway
  • July 26 - Peterborough Speedway
  • August 16 - Sauble Speedway
  • September 20 - Brighton Speedway
  • September 27 - Delaware Speedway
  • October 4 - Flamboro Speedway
  • October 10 - Peterborough Speedway

The cars competing in the championship are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. What makes the Hot Rod division unique are the makes and models that compete in the division. The cars must be North American, have a steel body and have been produced between 1949 and 1984. No convertibles or front-wheel-drive vehicles can participate in this series. Changes to the rules in the off-season included the addition of pick-up trucks and an increase in the eligible year range from 1974 to 1984. The Hot Rods must have a stock roof, grill, tail and the rest of the body panels can be fabricated from 22-gauge sheet steel but must retain a stock appearance. Many other rules governing this class are for safety and to keep the costs down.

Round eight of the 2025 OSCAAR Hot Rod series was held at Delaware Speedway during the Great Canadian Weekend. There were two more races left on the calendar; however, Delaware would be the last points-paying event. Drivers competed in a twenty-five-lap contest around the half-mile semi-banked asphalt oval.

The pace lap for round eight of the 2025 OSCAAR Hot Rod championship and fifteen competitors line up on Delaware Speedway’s back straight. Starting on the pole is the No. 47T 1974 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Thomas Wunsch. Next to Wunsch is Steve Book in the No. 47 1960 Studebaker Hawk. On the inside of row two is the No. 8 1977 Chevrolet Camaro of Drew Richardson and beside him, Dalen Martin driving the No. 26 1971 Ford Mach 1 Mustang.
Round eight of the 2025 OSCAAR Hot Rod championship was won by Dalen Martin. Martin drives the No. 26 1971 Ford Mach 1 Mustang. This was his sixth race of the season. He also collected a victory earlier in the season at Delaware. At the Great Canadian Weekend, Marlin competed in the second heat race and collected first place. Marlin was gridded fourth for the feature and chased the leader, Thomas Wunsch, until lap 21 when he grabbed the lead and won.
Finishing in the runner-up position during the Great Canadian Weekend was Thomas Wunsch. Wunsch’s team acquired Amanda Balson’s championship-winning 1974 Chevrolet Camaro during the off-season. He has been competitive since the opening round – collecting four top-five results and two heat wins. At Delaware, Wunsch was entered in the first heat and finished second. He started the feature on the pole but was unable to hold off Dalen Martin.
Kenny McNicol and his team have been focused on the Ontario Legend Car Series. However, he dusted off the No. 77 1977 Chevrolet Laguna and entered it in the OSCAAR Hot Rod race at Delaware Speedway’s Great Canadian Weekend.  Although it was his first appearance of the year, McNicol was the runner-up in the second qualifier. He lined up fifth for the feature. During the race, he passed Steve Book and Drew Richardson for a third-place result.

Martin ended the championship with four top-five results, of which two were victories. In the middle is the runner-up, Thomas Wunsch. Wunsch’s move from his Chevy II to a Camaro has allowed him to deliver some excellent results. Finishing in the third position was Kenny McNicol, Jr.
OSCAAR Hot Rod veteran, Tyler Hawn, entered the No. 2 1966 Pontiac Beaumont at Delaware Speedway’s Great Canadian Weekend despite earning the championship in the previous round at Brighton Speedway. Hawn competed in the second heat race and finished in fourth place. He started the twenty-five-lap feature in the seventh position. However, Hawn advanced three places to finish in fourth place.
Tyler Hawn is joined by his family and friends to celebrate his seventh Hot Rod title. On his way to the OSCAAR championship, Hawn collected eight top-five finishes in as many starts, of which three were feature wins.   His season also included victories in three OSCAAR heats. In addition, the driver of the No. 2 1966 Pontiac Beaumont finished first in Sunset Speedway’s Struyk Energy Hot Rod division.
