The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) introduced the Formula Regional (originally called Formula 3) concept in 2017 as the next step for Formula 4 competitors. The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA Pro Racing) debuted the Formula Regional Americas Championship in 2018.

The American series is aligned with the FIA and partners Honda Performance Development, Hankook Tire America and Ligier Automotive.

Drivers compete in the Ligier JS F3, designed and manufactured by Ligier Automotive for the American series. The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque. The suspension design is common to most open-wheel race cars: front and double wishbone, push-rod actuated shock absorbers, and springs with anti-roll bars.

The Ligier is powered by a turbocharged Honda K20C1 engine, which produces just over 300 horsepower. The motor is fitted with a six-speed sequential semi-automatic transmission.

The entire package weighs 1,430-pounds.

The 2025 Formula Regional Americas Championship consists of seven weekends, with three races held at each venue. The exceptions are the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Circuit of the Americas, which will host two contests.

  • March 27-30 – NOLA Motorsports Park
  • May 15-18 – Road America
  • June 12-15 – Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • June 19-22 – Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
  • July 31 - August 3 – New Jersey Motorsports Park
  • August 28-31 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 18-21 – Virginia International Raceway
  • October 17-19 – Barber Motorsports Park

Rounds fourteen, fifteen and sixteen of the 2025 Formula Regional Americas Championship were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course in an event presented by the Mosport Karting Centre.

Twelve Formula Regional America competitors entered corner ten at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for round fifteen of the championship. On the pole is Friday's winner, Titus Sherlock, driving the No. 31 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3. Next to Sherlock is Nicolas Ambiado in the No. 55 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3. Behind the leaders are the No. 22 Crosslink Motorsport entry of Jeff Bowling and Connor Roberts driving the No. 46 Ligier JS F3.
Titus Sherlock has had mixed results this season. The driver of the No. 31 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3 sits third in the points chase with four victories but a record that also includes three DNFs. However, the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park rounds would be his best weekend of the 2025 season. Sherlock went flag-to-flag in race one. On Saturday, he grabbed the lead on lap 2 and never looked back.  In the final contest, Sherlock led all the laps.
Another driver delivering his best results of the season was Canadian Connor Roberts. Roberts qualified fifth fastest for Friday's race driving the No. 46 Atlantic Racing Team Ligier JS F3, but a pass on Brady Golan and an off-course excursion by Jeff Bowling resulted in a third-place result. He collected another third the following day when Nicolas Ambiado went wide. In race three, Roberts lined up sixth and finished in fourth position.
Entering the sixth weekend of the championship, Nicolas Ambiado trailed the points leader, Bruno Ribeiro, by eleven markers. Ribeiro had a significant accident in practice, which prevented him from competing in qualifying and the weekend's first contest.  This allowed Ambiado to close the gap and possibly take the championship lead. He finished second in the first race; however, Ambiado was fourth and tenth in the next two contests.
Jeff Bowling's record this season includes a victory in round seven at Indy and six additional podium finishes. In the weekend's first contest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he qualified on the pole, but an error during the race resulted in a tenth-place finish. Saturday morning, the No. 22 Crosslink Motorsport Ligier JS F3 lined up third and grabbed the runner-up spot. Bowling ended the event with a third-place result after starting fifth.
The championship leader heading into the Canadian Tire Motorsport weekend is Bruno Ribeiro, with three victories. Unfortunately, Ribeiro’s title aspirations took a ‘bit of a blow’ at this event. In the opening practice session, Ribeiro crashed the No. 01 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3. He was not cleared for qualifying or race one. He was allowed to compete the next day, but an issue with the car resulted in an eleventh-place finish. Ribeiro was second in the finale.
The podium for round fourteen of the 2025 Formula Regional Americas Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. In the center from Crosslink Motorsports is the winner, Titus Sherlock. This was Sherlock's fifth victory of the season. On the left is the runner-up, Jeff Bowling. Bowling is fourth in the point standings, with a first-place finish at Indy. The final spot on the rostrum belongs to the third-place finisher, Connor Roberts.
