The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 16-18 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • May 31 - June 1 - St. LAC SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 13-15 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 26-27 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 8-10 - Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres - Trois-Rivieres
  • August 23-24 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 20-21 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire - the Toyo Proxes R888R.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A - This category is for newer chassis' built between 1995 and 2025. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B - This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The third weekend of the 2025 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix event. Drivers would collect points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

At the start of Sunday morning's contest, twenty-three Toyo Tires F1600 competitors exit Canadian Tire Motorsport's turn one. At the front of the field is the pole-sitter, Cole Janeteas, driving the No. 45 CC Motorsports Spectrum 015. On the outside of Janeteas is the No. 35 Precision Hydration Mygale SJ12 driven by James Lindsay. Behind Janeteas is Boss Patel in the No. 2 Brian Graham Racing prepared Piper DL7.
Stewart Ross opened his 2025 campaign with five victories in six starts. Ross inherited his sixth win of the season on Saturday afternoon when Christain Menezes was penalized for avoidable contact. In the weekend's second contest, the driver of the No. 67 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ12, followed his teammate Johnathan Petrone for a second-place result. Ross was in contention during the finale when he ran off-course at corner three and finished ninth.
Defending category B champion Steve Bodrug collected three victories during the first weekend. However, his fortunes changed at Shannonville when an incident in the first race eliminated him from the event. Saturday afternoon at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Bodrug traded the top spot with Craig Willis three times before finishing second. On Sunday, he went unchallenged and earned a pair of victories. Bodrug was also awarded the Oliver Clubine Trophy.
Jonathan Petrone has been getting quicker each race weekend, as evidenced by a pair of third-place finishes at Shannonville. During race one at the VARAC event, Petrone moved from sixth place to the lead by the race's midpoint. It appeared that he would collect his first victory; however, contact with Christain Menezes resulted in a fourteenth-place result. On Sunday morning, Petrone got that first win after a steady performance. In the final race, he finished in eighth place.
Twenty-two Toyo Tires F1600 drivers head for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's corner four for their final race of the VARAC Grand Prix event. Leading the field is the No. 4 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7, driven by Parker Gill. Behind Gill is his teammate, Christian Menezes, in the No. 3 Piper DL7. Trailing the pair from Britain West Motorsport are the No. 64 Mygale SJ13 of Johnathan Petrone and Stewart Ross in the No. 67 Mygale SJ12.
Brian Graham Racing's Christain Menezes grabbed his first series victory in race one at Shannonville Motorsport Park. Menezes put the No. 3 Piper DL7 third on the grid for Saturday's contest at the VARAC Grand Prix and crossed the finish line first. Unfortunately, he was penalized ten seconds for avoidable contact with Johnathan Petrone and classified with a fifth-place result. On Sunday, Menezes fared much better – collecting a win and third-place finish.
During the weekend, James Lindsay delivered some of his best results since moving from the B category to F1600A. Lindsay qualified eighth for the weekend's first event and was awarded the runner-up position when Christain Menezes was penalized. The VARAC Grand Prix Sunday morning contest didn't go quite as well, with him finishing sixteenth overall. However, Lindsay redeemed himself with a third-place result in the finale.
Craig Willis pilots the very successful Aero 2. Willis competes in the F1600B category due to the age of the chassis and the Ford engine. However, in the past, the driver-car combination has collected overall victories. He started the VARAC event by qualifying first in class and eleventh overall. Willis would collect a win in race one. In the second contest, he was beaten by Steve Bodrug. Unfortunately, Willis only completed four laps in Sunday afternoon's race.
