In 2014, the FIA introduced the Formula 4 concept globally to bridge the gap between karting and open-wheel racing. The Sports Car Club of America created the Formula 4 United States Championship in 2016. The series has experienced rapid growth in popularity due to its affordability and competitiveness.

In 2024, the series transitioned to the new Ligier JS F422 chassis and Ligier Storm power, rendering the previous model obsolete.

The Formula 4 United States Championship is part of a ladder system. The winner of the Driver's Championship will receive a scholarship to compete in the 2025 FR Americas series. Also included is the lease of an engine and Ligier JS F3 chassis from Ligier Automotive. There are also awards for the second and third-place finishers in the title chase. Finally, the series provides cash payouts and prizes at each race.

The series includes an impressive alumni list, including Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukus, Benjamin Peterson, Ernie Francis Jr., and Linus Lundqvist.

The 2025 Formula 4 United States Championship consists of five weekends, with three races at each venue.

  • March 27-30 - NOLA Motorsports Park
  • May 15-18 – Road America
  • June 19-22 – Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
  • July 31 - August 3 – New Jersey Motorsports Park
  • August 28-31 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 18-21 – VIRginia International Raceway
  • October 17-19 – Barber Motorsports Park

Rounds eleven, twelve and thirteen of the 2025 Formula 4 United States Championship were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The pace lap for race one at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and eight Formula 4 United States competitors enter the track’s final turn. On the pole is the No. 14 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422 driven by Cooper Shipman. Beside Shipman is Alex Popow driving the No. 55 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS F422. Oliver Savoie occupies the second row in the No. 88 YXE Auto Ligier JS F422 and the No. 17 Velox USA Ligier JS F422 of Clemente Huerta.
Before rounds eleven, twelve and thirteen Cooper Shipman had collected four consecutive wins. The trend continued at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, with him sweeping the weekend. Shipman qualified on the pole for Saturday morning's contest but had to pass Alex Popow for the victory. In the afternoon, he started second and moved into the lead halfway through the race for the win. Sunday's contest was another dominant performance.
The No. 55 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS F422 is piloted by Alex Popow. Popow is the son of successful Sports Car racer Alex Popow. He started the season with two victories at NOLA, but failed to collect points in rounds six and nine. Popow qualified second for race one at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and led until he surrendered the position to Cooper Shipman. He started third in the next contest and finished second. Popow ended the event with a third-place result.
Kekai Hauanio is second in the points chase, with victories at NOLA and Road America. Hauanio drives the No. 29 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F422. He was sixth fastest in qualifying for round 11. Oliver Savoie's accident and a pass on Demitri Nolan resulted in a fourth-place finish. In the afternoon, Hauanio started fourth and capitalised on Clemente Huerta's accident to finish third. He concluded the weekend with a second-place finish.
Clemente Huerta's first visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park started with a podium result. Huerta qualified fourth for Saturday morning's contest and benefited from Oliver Savoie's accident to finish third. The No. 17 Velox USA Ligier JS F422 was on the pole for the afternoon's race, but a crash late in the event resulted in an eighth-place finish. Unfortunately, Huerta was unable to start the final event of the weekend.
