The 31st Annual APC Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway included the Super Stock division.

The Super Stock category includes a variety of North American makes and models from the ‘60s to the current year. The rules used in the class allow some suspension modifications and changes to the bodies. Some Super Stock cars retain the original steel bodies with plastic noses and fiberglass hoods; however, most use fiberglass panels. They are powered by a modified small-block engine or crate motor from General Motors and Ford. The cars weigh approximately 3,000 lbs, with 55% of the weight distributed to the left side. The division serves as a ‘stepping stone’ for those drivers who aspire to compete in the Pro Late Model category.

The starting grid for the feature was set after two heat races. Drivers would compete in a fifty-lap contest around ‘Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile.’

Due to the multiple caution periods and a time limit, the race was checkered on lap 46.

Seventeen Super Stock competitors line up on Peterborough Speedway’s front straight for their fifty-lap contest. The No. 36 Bester Forest Products Ford Mustang is on the pole driven by Lane Zardo. Sharing the front row with Zardo is Paul Pepper in the No. 29 Humberview Parts Chevrolet Camaro. Immediately behind the leaders is Todd Davenport in the No. 30 Ron Pringle Electric Chevrolet Camaro and the No. 89C Chevrolet Camaro of Shawn Chenoweth.
Several Dayco Super Stock competitors entered Peterborough. One of the regulars was the driver of the No. 36 Bester Forest Products Ford Mustang of Lane Zardo. Zardo, who finished second in the Dayco series, captured a victory in his first heat and was the runner-up in the second qualifier. He started the feature on the pole and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. Despite pressure from Daniel Hawn and Shawn Chenoweth, Zardo held on for the victory.
Another Dayco Super Stock Series driver, Shawn Chenoweth, who finished third in the final standings, participated at Peterborough. However, Chenoweth has been very quick lately and was fresh off a win at Flamboro Frostoberfest. He was gridded fourth for the feature after a first and third in the heats. However, it took Chenoweth a while to catch the leaders. By lap 39, he was second, but Chenoweth was unable to challenge Lane Zardo for the win.
This season, Daniel Hawn’s primary focus has been the Can-Am Midgets. Hawn succeeded in capturing the championship. However, he occasionally makes an appearance in the No. 42 Flamboro Machine Shop Chevrolet Camaro. Hawn finished second in his first qualifier and second in the next heat. He was gridded fifth for the fifty-lap contest but was in second place by lap 7. With eleven laps remaining, Chenoweth passed Hawn, who finished in third place.
Todd Davenport has been putting his efforts into his son’s successful Junior Late Model program. However, he found time to compete at Peterborough Speedway’s 31st Annual APC Autumn Colours Classic, driving the No. 30 Ron Pringle Electric Chevrolet Camaro.   He started the feature in the third position but jumped into second on the opening lap. Davenport was eventually passed by Daniel Hawn and Shawn Chenoweth for a fourth-place result.

Zardo led flag-to-flag in the No. 36 Bester Forest Products Ford Mustang. On the left is the runner-up, Shawn Chenoweth. Chenoweth started the fifty-lap contest in the fourth position but chased down the eventual winner, Zardo. The final position is occupied by the third-place finisher, Daniel Hawn.
