2024 Flamboro Speedway - London Recreational Super Stock

One of the many races held at Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest was the fifty-lap London Recreational Racing Super Stock event. With a total payout of $8,050, Super Stock competitors had a healthy turnout. The race winner collected $1,500, and drivers finishing in the top twenty-four positions earned cash.

The Super Stock category includes a variety of makes and models from the ‘60s to the current year. The rules used in the class allow some suspension modifications and changes to the bodies. Some Super Stock cars retain the original steel bodies with plastic noses and fiberglass hoods; however, most use fiberglass body panels. They are powered by a modified small-block engines or crate motors from General Motors and Ford. The division serves as a ‘stepping stone’ for those drivers who aspire to compete in the Pro Late Model category.

The starting grid was set by inverting the sixth fastest qualifiers.

Unfortunately, Officials flagged the race early due to on track incidents.

Twenty-two competitors line up for the fifty-lap London Recreational Racing Super Stock contest at Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest event. After the top six qualifiers were inverted, the No. 83 Image Line Branding Solutions Dodge Charger of Brody Rickwood started from the pole. Beside Rickwood is the 2024 Dayco Super Stock champion, Carson Nagy, in the No. 93 Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC Chevrolet Camaro.

Shawn Chenoweth’s last Super Stock race at Flamboro Speedway ended in disappointment when the differential failed on the No. 89C London Recreational Racing Chevrolet Camaro. At the Frostoberfest event, he was second fastest in qualifying, and after the invert, he started fifth. By lap 3, Chenoweth had moved to third and would pass Carson Nagy twenty-six circuits later for the lead. He won by a margin of 0.928 seconds.

Ray Morneau just completed his first full season of the APC Late Model Series and finished sixth in the championship. At Flamboro Speedway, he was driving the No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro campaigned during 2024 by Brody Rickwood. Morneau was fourth quickest during the time trials and gridded third after the invert was implemented. The race was full of incidents; however, Morneau was able to avoid much of the on-track trouble and finished second.

Carson Nagy and the No. 93 Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC Chevrolet Camaro are a potent combination, having won two consecutive Dayco Super Stock titles. He started on the outside of the front row and jumped into the lead after the lap-3 restart. However, during the contest, Nagy was passed by Sean Chenoweth, Ray Morneau, Lane Zardo, and Anthony DiBello. Contact between Zardo and DiBello late in the race gave him a third-place finish.

Another driver hopping into someone else’s car was Andy Kamrath. Kamrath raced the No. 29 Humberview Parts Chevrolet Camaro that Paul Pepper drove to a third place result in Sunset Speedway’s Super Stock track championship. He was gridded thirteenth for the fifty-lap contest but moved into the top ten almost immediately. He capitalized on contact between Anthony DiBello and Lane Zardo to grab a fourth place result.

The London Recreational Racing Super Stock feature winner at Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest weekend, Shawn Chenoweth, celebrates his victory with Mike Schmidt. Schmidt is the driving force behind London Recreational Racing. He not only supported this event and other races at Flamboro Speedway but also provided backing to several local racers, including Chenoweth.
