A Battle of the Builders finalist was 1000X, a 1959 Chrysler 300E owned by Randy Kohltfarber. The Chrysler was built by American Legends Hotrods and Muscle Cars. Powering the 1000X is a 6.2-liter Hellcat with a custom supercharger and one-off billet valve covers. The 1000 horsepower is transferred to the rear wheels using a Stage 2 Tremec T56 six-speed transmission. No body panel was left untouched during the 8,000-hour build.
A Young Guns competitor was Tyler Adams with this 1967 Chevrolet C10. Adam’s creation uses a front and rear Porterbuilt coilover chassis. The chassis and wheels are painted the same colour as the body. Wilwood calipers and rotors stop the C10. The wheel wells have been increased 2.5 inches to accommodate the custom Schott Wheels. The fit and finish of the 1967 Chevrolet are flawless.
Another vehicle that made it to the top 12 finalist list in The Battle of the Builders is this 1956 Porsche Speedster built by Kenny Pfitzer. The Porsche competed in the Sport Compact / Import Performance category. The car is finished in PPG Rosa Red paint. The Porsche has a 2276-cc engine with 48 IDF Weber carburetors, making 162 horsepower. The transmission was rebuilt by Kevin Richards of KCR Transmissions. The interior is by Riverside Auto Upholstery.
Zach Eason competed in the Young Guns category with this 1978 Nissan Datsun B210. Eason replaced the original Datsun A14 engine, which has an output of 95 horsepower, with a KA24DE from a Nissan 240SX (S14) with a horsepower rating of 155, plus he added a turbocharger. Eason fabricated custom coil-overs based on the struts from a 280ZX. This modification allowed the use of larger brakes.
Young Guns competitor Connor McElvain made it to the top 4 finalists in The Battle of the Builders with this 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster. Under the hood is a swapped Nissan SR20 engine with variable valve timing mated with Weber 45 carburetors. This replaces the original 2.0-liter U20 single-overhead-camshaft four-cylinder. Engine management is accomplished using a Haltech Elite 550 ECU, which controls ignition timing, variable valve lift, and auxiliary systems.
