The Nissan Micra Cup series made its debut in 2015. The championship was designed to provide racers with the most affordable race vehicle in Canada. New for 2021, and replacing the Micra series, was the Nissan Sentra Cup. Last year the grids still included the older Micras, but they are nolonger eligible to compete in the series.

Each Nissan Sentra competing in the series carries a price tag of $39,990. The Sentras were prepared by the Motorsports in Action team at St-Eustache, with the development being performed by Canadian racing veteran Jean-Francois Dumoulin. The cars are powered by a DACT four-cylinder 2.0-liter sequential multi-point fuel injection engine which produces 149-horsepower at 6,400-rpm. Some performance upgrades include four-piston front calipers, adjustable coil-overs, 18”X9” alloy wheels, braided stainless steel flex lines and a MoTec M1 Series ECM. To address safety, the Sentra Cup cars include features such as an FIA Spec six-point roll cage, FIA homologated six-point harness and FIA homologated racing seat.

Each race weekend consists of two forty-minute contests.

  • May 17-19 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 6-7 - Complexe ICAR
  • July 18-20 - Lime Rock Park
  • August 9-11 - Circuit de Trois-Rivières
  • August 30 - September 1 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 27-29 - Calabogie Motorsports Park

Rounds nine and ten of the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Labour Day Sprints event. Drivers would compete in two forty-minute contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

Twenty competitors funnel into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s first corner for round ten of the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup. Leading the field is the No. 777 Groupe Gabriel  / BetGRW.com Racing Team Nissan Sentra of the pole-sitter, Valerie Limoges, and Nicolas Barrette driving the No. 427 Groupe RM Nissan Sentra. Behind the leaders are Simon Vincent in the No. 91 Vincent2 racing team and the No. 95 Ste-Foy Nissan / Fix Auto driven by Daniel Fortin.
Simon Vincent is one of the title contenders with four rounds remaining in the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup, albeit his chances are slim. The rally champion started on the outside of the front row in the weekend’s first contest, driving the No. 91 Vincent2 racing team Nissan Sentra. He led the race before corner two and despite being challenged by Nicolas Barrette, Vincent collected his first victory in 2024. In race two, he finished third.
The series 2022 champion, Valerie Limoges, drives the No. 777 Groupe Gabriel  / BetGRW.com Racing Team Nissan Sentra. Mathematically, Limoges could secure her second title at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but that would require her challengers to suffer significant setbacks. Limoges qualified fourth for Saturday’s contest and finished finish fifth. She started on the pole on Sunday and redeemed herself with a flag-to-flag victory.
Another championship contender is Nicolas Barrette. Barrette put the No. 427 Groupe RM Nissan Sentra third on the grid for round nine. On the lap 3 restart, he passed Daniel Fortin for the runner-up position. Barrette held the spot to the checkered flag and closed the gap to the points leader, Valerie Limoges. The next day, he started on the outside of the front row and challenged Limoges but was unable to pass her and finished second.
Alexandre Fortin was last year’s Nissan Sentra Cup champion. He pilots the No. 1 Ste-Foy Nissan / Fix Auto. Fortin was fifth fastest in the qualifying session for Saturday’s contest. During the race, he passed Valerie Limoges and Daniel Fortin to earn the final position on the podium. Unfortunately, the finale was a disaster for Fortin. Mid-race, he pitted to replace a flat tire and made a second stop to have the crew check the car. He finished seventeenth.
Matthieu Miron is one of the hottest drivers during the last two race weekends. The No. 191 191 Motorsport Nissan Sentra driver swept the doubleheader weekend at Lime Rock Park. Miron collected a pair of runner-up results in rounds seven and eight at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. In the weekend’s first race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he qualified eighth and finished sixth. On Sunday, Miron started sixth and was fifth at the finish line.
Eric Chaput lost ground in the points chase at rounds nine and ten. Chaput began his 2024 campaign with a third-place result in round one at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. When the Nissan Sentra Cup returned during the Labour Day Sprints, he started ninth for race one. In the race, Chaput was unable to improve upon his qualifying effort. In the final contest, he was gridded in the ninth position and finished eighth.
