The cars competing in the NASCAR Canada Series are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. The chassis is a steel tube frame design covered with a fiberglass body and must weigh no less than 3000-lbs. Body styles are from manufacturers such as Dodge (Challenger), Ford (Mustang) and Chevrolet (Camaro). Engine type and displacement are dictated by the make and model of the vehicle. The carbureted eight-cylinder motors produce approximately 550-horsepower. Depending on the gearing, these cars are estimated to have a top speed of 160-mph.

Round eleven of the 2024 NASCAR Canada Series was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete on the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course for fifty-one laps in an event titled the WeatherTech 200.

The opening lap of the WeatherTech 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport. The pole-sitter, Kevin Lacroix, leads the field into corner one in the No. 74 Adaptive Calipers Dodge Challenger. The other front-row starter, Gary Klutt, is driving the No. 59 Bothwell-Accurate / Hofmann Plastics Dodge Challenger. Behind the top qualifiers are the No. 27 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro of Andrew Ranger and Marc-Antione Camirand in the second Paille entry.
Kevin Lacroix holds the record for the most NASCAR victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park at seven wins. Lacroix was second fastest in practice and improved in qualifying to capture the pole driving the No. 74 Adaptive Calipers Dodge Challenger. He led the first fourteen laps but fell to mid-pack after the pit stop. Lacroix began his charge, passing seven cars in four laps. On the final circuit, he bumped Marc-Antione Camirand for the lead and win.
The championship leader is Marc-Antoine Camirand. The 2022 title holder has four victories in the No. 96 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro. Camirand qualified fourth when the series returned to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. At the start of the race, he dropped the order, but he grabbed the lead during the pit stops. On the final lap, Kevin Lacroix moved him in Moss corner and Camirand finished second but still tops the point standings.
Making his only start of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was Kyle Steckly, the son of fourth time series champion Scott Steckly. Steckly’s focus has been on the APC United Late Model series and the ASA STARS National Tour this year. He drove the No. 22 MBS Mtps / Sierra Excavating / 22 Racing Chevrolet Camaro in round eleven. Steckly started sixth and was as high as second when he was passed by Kevin Lacroix. He finished third.
The last couple of seasons have been filled with back luck for series three-time champion Andrew Ranger. However, this year, Ranger is second in the standings after winning at Autodrome Chaudiere, Eastbound International Speedway, and most recently, Circuit ICAR. At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he qualified third fastest. Ranger remained in contention during the race and finished fourth, but he is still in the hunt for the title.
Series veteran D.J. Kennington has more NASCAR Canada starts than any other competitor. The No. 17 Castrol Edge Dodge Challenger driver wasn’t particularly fast in practice and qualifying. He was gridded fourteenth for the WeatherTech 200. As the race progressed, Kennington moved forward after stopping for fuel and left side tires. When the checkered flag fell, he was in fifth place. More importantly, Kennington is fourth in the title chase.
J.P. Bergeron had an engine issue early in the practice session – dropping oil from corner four until he stopped at Moss. The team replaced the motor in the No. 1 Prolon Controls / Rousseau Metals Ford Mustang and he qualified twelfth fastest. During the fifty-one lap WeatherTech 200, Bergeron passed Gary Klutt, Alex Tagliani and Ryan Klutt. The retirements of Alex Labbe and L.P. Dumoulin allowed him to finish in the sixth position.
Sam Fellows opened his 2024 NASCAR campaign with a fourth place finish – his best series result. Since that event, he has had disappointing outcomes – most often caused by engine issues. The decision was made to remove and replace the primary engine with the backup motor. Fellows qualified fifteenth in the No. 87 AER / Polysleep Chevrolet Camaro. He pitted early and moved up the order. Fellows was running second when the engine failed on lap-43.
