Rounds nine and ten of the 2024 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, presented by Michelin, were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Chevrolet Grand Prix weekend. Drivers would compete in two forty-five-minute contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The pace lap for round ten of the 2024 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, and twenty competitors enter Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s final turn for the forty-five-minute contest. On the pole is Jared Thomas driving the No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering Mazda MX-5. Beside Thomas is the No. 24 JTR Motorsports Engineering Mazda MX-5 driven by Aaron Jeansonne. Occupying row two are Saturday’s winner, Westin Workman, and Gresham Wagner.
During Saturday’s race, six drivers from three different teams were credited with leading a lap. However, it was the final lap that counted, and it belonged to the rookie Westin Workman. Workman, driving the No. 13 BSI Racing Mazda MX-5, qualified sixth but was in first place on the final circuit. It was his second victory of the year. The Mazda Shootout Scholarship winner was gridded third for Sunday’s contest but finished sixteenth after contact.
The No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing Mazda MX-5 was driven by Nate Cicero.  Cicero qualified and finished fourth for the weekend’s first contest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The following day, he lined up sixth.  A series of on-track incidents elevated him to second place on the final lap. Cicero believed he was the runner-up after crossing the finish line; however, the leader, Jeremy Fletcher, received a ten-second penalty, giving the victory to Cicero.
Driving the No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering Mazda MX-5, Jared Thomas qualified third for round nine. Thomas was one of six different drivers credited with leading the race. With five laps remaining, he was passed by Westin Workman and finished in the runner-up spot. On Sunday, he started the forty-five minute contest on the pole.  During the race, Thomas was involved in contact with two other drivers and slid down the order to finish eighth.
Julian DaCosta, a contender for the Rookie Championship, would want to forget round nine at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. DaCosta qualified a respectable eighth place in the No. 78 JTR Motorsports Engineering Mazda MX-5 but became the race’s first retirement after completing sixteen laps. The crew changed the engine in the car overnight, which required him to start last. DaCosta charged through the field to finish second.
Teenager Connor Zilisch is the hottest commodity in the North American racing scene. He has won across many different series. At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Zilisch piloted the No. 72 BSI Racing-prepared Mazda MX-5. He started race one on the outside of the front row and led the most laps but crossed the finish line in third. Contact on the opening lap of race two forced him to make a pit stop, which resulted in an eighteenth-place finish.
Alex Bachoura is the all-time leader in MX-5 Cup starts with 120 after the Canadian Tire Motorsport event. Bachoura drives the No. 33 Mazda MX-5 prepared by Spark Performance.  He was the eleventh fastest in qualifying for the weekend’s first contest and finished in the eighth position. Bachoura started seventh on Sunday. During the race, he avoided the incidents to finish third, his second series podium.
