Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest showcased many classes, but the race generating the most attention was the Grisdale Triple Crown for Pro Late Models. The event paid over $25,000, with the winner collecting $3,500. The twenty-fourth finisher received starting money of $800.

The Pro Late Models competed in three fifty laps contests. Points for each race were awarded based on finishing order, with the winner earning 50 points, the runner-up 49 points, third place receiving 48 points, and so on. The highest point total at the end of the final contest was declared the Grisdale Triple Crown winner.

There were some additional rules for the event:

  • It was a four-tire contest, with all tires being impounded by Gridales.
  • Teams were not allowed to adjust the cars after qualifying but were free to make changes after each race.
  • The first race was a dice draw invert of the qualifying order. Races two and three were an invert of all lead lap cars.
  • The ‘Choose Rule’ was not implemented.

The Pro Late Models are constructed according to specifications and controls standard to most stock car series. The chassis is a tube frame covered with fiberglass bodies. A car can weigh as much as 2800-lbs depending on the engine choice. Unlike the popular APC series, this event allows teams to compete with crate engines or built motors. Competitors use a spec tire from American Racer. There are also rules restricting the options for transmissions, ignition components, body material, brakes, etc.

The pace lap for race one of the Grisdale Triple Crown and twenty-one Pro Late Model competitors prepare to exit Flamboro Speedway’s corner two. The fastest qualifier, Dale Shaw, is on the pole in the No. 83 Wellington Systems Chevrolet SS. On the outside of Shaw is the No. 84 Cambridge Rigging Chevrolet SS driven by J.R. Fitzpatrick. Immediately behind the leaders are Shae Gemmell and Treyten Lapcevich.
The complexion of the event changed in the first race when there was contact between the leaders J.R. Fitzpatrick and Dale Shaw. Fitzpatrick’s Chevrolet SS suffered severe damage, and Shaw was disqualified for his involvement in the incident. The third place starter, Shae Gemmell, in the No. 3 APC Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS inherited the lead and took the win. Gemmell was victorious in the second race and finished third in the finale to collect the Grisdale Triple Crown.
The winner of race number three was Billy Schwartzenberg. Schwartzenberg, who drives the No. 86 Spira / Hy-Grade Steel Roofing Ford Fusion, won this season’s Flamboro Late Model track championship by a single point. He qualified fifth for race one and finished third. After the invert, Schwartzenberg started eighth in the second contest and received the checkered flag in third. His victory and two third-place finishes earned him a second in the Grisdale Triple Crown.
The 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion, Treyten Lapcevich, headed south of the border to compete in this year’s zMax CARS Tour. Lapcevich entered the Grisdale Trip Crown driving the No. 41 Holdaway Motorsports Chevrolet SS that his brother Cayden drove at the APC finale. He finished second after starting fourth in race one. In the next contest, body damage resulted in a sixth place. Lapcevich was second in the final and finished third in the Grisdale Triple Crown.
Sixteen Grisdale Triple Crown competitors enter Flamboro Speedway’s front straight for the start of the second feature. On the pole is the No. 7 New Generation Racing Engines Ford Fusion driven by Ty Cavallin, who finished eleventh in race one. Beside Cavallin in the number two position is Logan White in the No. 21 Pharmasave Chevrolet SS. Trailing the leaders are the Chevrolets of Cole Quinton and Cory Luciano.
The No. 7 New Generation Racing Engines Ford Fusion was driven by Ty Cavallin. Cavallin splits his time between Flamboro and Sauble Speedway. He qualified sixth for the first feature and crossed the finish line in the eleventh position.  The invert gave Cavallin the pole for the second contest. Unable to hold off Shae Gemmell, he finished in the runner-up spot.  His day came to an end on lap 27 when the car suffered a fuel issue.
On the lap 14 restart of feature two, Rick Burbridge was on the outside of a three-car wide scenario heading down the front straight.   Burbridge hit and climbed the wall with two wheels, finally stopping in corner one. The No. 2 West Brant Window World sponsored Chevrolet Camaro could not be repaired for the remainder of the event.  In the first contest, he was gridded ninth and finished in the sixth position.
Just thirteen competitors made the start of the final race of the Grisdale Triple Crown. On the pole is the No. 0 Glenn Styres Racing Chevrolet Camaro of Glenn Styres. On the outside of Styres is Treyten Lapcevich driving the No. 41 Holdaway Motorsports Chevrolet SS. Row two is occupied by Cole Quinton in the No. 18 Spira / Just Foam It Chevrolet SS. And the No. 94 Ry-Matt Mini Storage Ford Mustang of Blair Wickett.
With a total of 148 points, Shae Gemmell captured this year’s Grisdale Triple Crown. Gemmell won the first two features and was third in the finale. Earlier in the season the driver of the No. 3 APC Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS was victorious in round five of the APC Unite Late Model Championship for Pro Late Models held at Flamboro Speedway. This was Gemmells third Grisdale Triple Crown win.
