2024 marked the twenty-ninth season of the NTT IndyCar Series. Eighteen rounds would be contested to determine titles for teams and drivers.

All teams use the Dallara IR-18 chassis, an IR-12 with an IR-18 aero kit. The carbon fiber/Kevlar monocoque is fitted to a Honda or Chevrolet engine, which attaches to an XTRAC transmission with six forward gears and a paddle shift. To stop the Dallara PFC CR90, aluminum calipers are used with PFC carbon brake pads and rotors. Tires used in the series are Firestone Firehawks mounted on 15-inch diameter X 10-inch-wide wheels on the front and the rears are 15-inch diameter X 14-inch wide wheels. The entire package weighs approximately 1,700 lbs.

The most significant change in 2024 was the addition of hybrid systems. Honda and Chevrolet continued to be the two engine options available to teams. Both the Chevrolet and Honda motors are manufactured to the same rules. The series calls for a 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged V6 power plant, which revs to a maximum of 12,000 rpm and produces 550-700 horsepower depending on the turbo boost. The hybrid powertrain consists of a multi-phase motor, inverter, and battery, creating energy recovery from the car's braking system. The addition of the hybrid unit increases the power output to 900 horsepower. The new system debuted at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and will be used for the remainder of the year.

Round thirteen of the 2024 NTT IndyCar Series was held on the eleven-turn, 1.755-mile temporary street circuit at Toronto's Exhibition Place. The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto event would be the thirty-eighth visit for Indy Cars to Toronto.

Twenty-seven IndyCar competitors enter Toronto's Exhibition Place turn nine for the eighty-five lap Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto. On the pole is Colton Herta in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda-powered Dallara IR-18. On the outside of Herta is his Andretti Autosport teammate Kyle Kirkwood, driving the No. 27 AutoNation Dallara. Row two is occupied by the No. 60 SiriusXM of Felix Rosenqvist and Scott McLaughlin in the No. 3 Gallagher Dallara.
After a forty-race winless drought, Colton Herta found the top step of the victory podium in Toronto. Herta dominated the weekend in Toronto. He was at the top of the timesheets in the three practice sessions and qualifying. In the race, Herta led all but four laps. Despite his dominant performance, his teammate, Kyle Kirkwood, chased him throughout the contest. With the result, Herta moved from sixth to fourth in the title chase.
Kyle Kirkwood, Colton Herta's Andretti Autosport teammate, finished in the runner-up position, driving the No. 27 AutoNation Dallara IR-18. Kirkwood qualified second to Herta and shadowed him for much of the eighty-five-lap contest. Late in the race, he came under pressure from the series six-time champion, Scott Dixon. In an effort to keep Dixon behind himself, Kirkwood finished just 0.3469 seconds behind Herta.
A miscue during qualifying cost Scott Dixon dearly. The driver of the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda-powered Dallara IR-18 was gridded fifteenth in a field of twenty-seven starters. However, Dixon began his charge to the front early, and despite contact with Agustin Canapino on lap 4, he was able to continue. By the seventieth circuit, Dixon was chasing the leaders, Colton Herta and Kyle Kirkwood. Unable to pass the leaders, he finished third.
The championship leader heading into round thirteen was Alex Palou. Paluo qualified eighteenth in the No. 10 DHL Dallara IR-18. The series reigning champion moved cautiously through the field so as not to compromise his position in the title chase. On lap 72, he was seventh and narrowly missed the race's biggest incident, which eliminated five cars. Able to continue, Palou finished fourth and padded his points lead over Will Power.
New Zealander Marcus Armstrong is in his second season of the NTT IndyCar Series. This year, his best result to date is a third at the Detroit Grand Prix. He started thirteenth at Toronto's Exhibition Place, driving No. 11 Ridgeline Lubricants Dallara IR18 for Chip Ganassi Racing. He was one of the beneficiaries of the turn-one incident on lap 72. Armstrong was in tenth place and cleared the debris to finish in fifth place.
It was a terrible weekend for the three Penske drivers. With nine laps to go, Scott McLaughlin, driving the No. 3 Gallagher Dallara IR18, was in sixth place. Immediately behind him was his teammate Will Power in the No. 12 Verizon Business Dallara. In turn five, Power tried to pass McLaughlin, but there was contact, sending McLaughlin into the wall. McLaughlin retired, with Power finishing twelfth and Josef Newgarden placing eleventh.
The winner, Colton Herta, sits in the press conference center. The victory ended Herta's forty-race winless streak. It was also the ninth time an Andretti car had won in Toronto. Seven of these were attributable to Michael Andretti. On the left is Herta's teammate and the runner-up, Kyle Kirkwood. Completing the top three was Scott Dixon. The result tied Dixon with Mario Andretti for the most third-place finishes, at 141.
