Now in its thirty-fourth year, the Ontario Stock Car Association of Asphalt Racers (OSCAAR) is responsible for sanctioning two divisions: Modified and Hot Rod.

On November 1, 2022, it was announced that OSCAAR had merged with the United Racing Series. The relationship increases OSCAAR’s resources and allows the United Racing Series to expand its brand and footprint in motorsports.

In other news, JRS Auctions.com signed on as the title sponsor for the Hot Rod division.

Twelve races are on the 2024 JRS Auctions OSCAAR Hot Rod schedule.

  • June 1 - Flamboro Speedway
  • June 15 - Sauble Speedway
  • June 28 - Delaware Speedway
  • June 29 - Delaware Speedway

The cars competing in the championship are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. What makes the Hot Rod division unique are the makes and models that compete in the division. The cars must be North American, have a steel body and have been produced between 1949 and 1984. No convertibles or front-wheel-drive vehicles can participate in this series. Changes to the rules in the off-season included the addition of pick-up trucks and an increase in the eligible year range from 1974 to 1984. The Hot Rods must have a stock roof, grill, tail and the rest of the body panels can be fabricated from 22-gauge sheet steel but must retain a stock appearance. Many other rules governing this class are for safety and to keep the costs down.

The penultimate round of the 2024 JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod Series was held during Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest weekend. Hot Rod drivers competed in a thirty-lap contest around the 1/3-mile semi-banked oval.

The pace lap for the penultimate round of the 2024 JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod Series. The series three-time champion Steve Book is on the pole, driving the No. 47 1960 Studebaker Hawk. Beside Book is the No. 77 1977 Chevrolet Laguna of the title contender Kenny McNicol, Jr. Sitting in row two are the points leader Tyler Hawn, who drives the No. 2 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and the No. 00 1974 Chevrolet Camaro of Trevor Thompson.
On Saturday evening at Flamboro Speedway, Trevor Thompson collected a well-earned victory. Thompson and his No. 00 1971 Chevrolet Camaro sustained a heavy hit against the front straight wall in round three at Delaware Speedway. The Camaro was severely damaged; however, the car was rebuilt in time for Frostoberfest. Thompson collected a win in heat three and started the feature in fourth.  At the end of the thirty-lap feature, he was the leader.
Tyler Hawn is seeking his fifth JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod title. At the penultimate event, the second-best scenario played out for Hawn. He finished second, but the winner, Trevor Thompson, isn’t a championship contender. Hawn collected fourth and second place results in the heats. The No. 2 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was gridded third for the final. Passes on Steve Book and Kenny McNicol, Jr. were rewarded with a runner-up result.
Kenny McNicol, Jr. entered  Flamboro second in the points chase. McNicol’s record includes one feature victory and six heat wins. At Frostoberfest, he earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the heats. McNicol started the thirty lap feature on the outside of the front row. He passed the pole-sitter, Steve Book, but could not hold off the eventual winner, Trevor Thompson and Tyler Hawn. McNicol sits seventeen markers behind Hawn with one event remaining.
Rounding out the top four was Cory McAllister. McAllister piloted the No. 71 1974 Dodge Dart. The Dart was campaigned in this year’s Sunset Speedway’s LUDUH Hot Rod series by Drew Roberston, who finished ninth in the final standings. McAllister adapted to the car quickly and won the first heat race. In the finale, he was gridded in the fourth position. McAllister got by the pole-sitter, Steve Book, and chased the leaders to a fourth-place result.
The top three finishers for the tenth race of the 2024 JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod season. In the center is the winner, Trevor Thompson. Frostoberfest was Thompson’s first event back after his No. 00 Chevrolet Camaro was severely damaged in round three at Delaware Speedway. On the right is the runner-up and current points leader, with one event left in the year, Tyler Hawn. Finishing third is the man chasing Hawn for the title, Kenny McNicol, Jr.
