Now in its thirty-fourth year, the Ontario Stock Car Association of Asphalt Racers (OSCAAR) is responsible for sanctioning two divisions: Modified and Hot Rod.

On November 1, 2022, it was announced that OSCAAR had merged with the United Racing Series. The relationship increases OSCAAR’s resources and allows the United Racing Series to expand its brand and footprint in motorsports.

In other news, JRS Auctions.com signed on as the title sponsor for the Hot Rod division.

Twelve races are on the 2024 JRS Auctions OSCAAR Hot Rod schedule.

The cars competing in the championship are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. What makes the Hot Rod division unique are the makes and models that compete in the division. The cars must be North American, have a steel body and have been produced between 1949 and 1984. No convertibles or front-wheel-drive vehicles can participate in this series. Changes to the rules in the off-season included the addition of pick-up trucks and an increase in the eligible year range from 1974 to 1984. The Hot Rods must have a stock roof, grill, tail and the rest of the body panels can be fabricated from 22-gauge sheet steel but must retain a stock appearance. Many other rules governing this class are for safety and to keep the costs down.

Round nine of the 2024 JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod Series was held at Delaware Speedway during the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Drivers competed in a twenty-five-lap contest around the ½-mile semi-banked asphalt oval.

Weather impacted the event, forcing officials to reduce the practice to ten minutes and eliminate the heat races.

A rain delay required officials to set the starting grid by inverting the field based on points and attendance. Steve McCaw was the fastest in the practice session, driving the No. 4 1974 Chevrolet Camaro, and started on the pole. Next to McCaw is Steve Book's No. 47 1960 Studebaker Hawk. In row two are Kenny McNicol, Jr. in the No. 77 1977 Chevrolet Laguna and Matt Hopkins's No.44 1964 Pontiac Laurentian.
Steve McCaw isn't slowing down despite suffering a medical emergency at Delaware Speedway last season. McCaw had an accident in the first race at the track's Canada Day Race Weekend double-header. A revised schedule due to rain gave the team a day to repair the No. 4 1974 Chevrolet Camaro. He started first and finished fifth. With the Camaro fully sorted for the Great Canadian Race Weekend, McCaw went flag-to-flag for the victory.
Dalen Martin made his season debut in race two of Delaware Speedway's Canada Day Race Weekend double-header. The 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 proved to be quick, but issues prevented Martin from earning a good result. In the series' second visit to Delaware, he started fourth. Martin was involved in a battle with Rick Spencer-Walt and Kenny McNicol, Jr. With ten laps to go, he was in second and maintained his position until the checkered flag..
Finishing third was Rick Spencer-Walt. Spencer-Walt drove Rob Bromley's No. 61 1972 Dodge Challenger. The former Late Model regular has taken a step back this year to help with his son's Mini Stock effort and race different vehicles. Round nine was the third time he drove Bromley's Challenger this season. Spencer-Walt has earned two top-five results and a heat win. He was gridded sixth at Delaware Speedway and advanced to a third place finish.
Kenny McNicol, Jr debuted his No. 77 1977 Chevrolet Laguna in round one at Flamboro. He started the feature in eighth place and finished third. Since the opening round, McNicol has earned five heat wins and a feature victory at Peterborough Speedway. He started third at Delaware Speedway's Great Canadian Race Weekend. During the twenty-five lap contest, he lost places to Dalen Martin and Rick Spencer-Walt to finish fourth.
To defend his JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod title, Tyler Hawn got extra track time at Delaware Speedway by competing in the track's V8 Stock class. The reigning champion drives the No. 2 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and leads this year's standings. Hawn was gridded eighth for round nine and finished fifth. He is still at the top of the points table but lost ground to title contender Kenny McNicol, Jr.
The three-time OSCAAR Hot Rod champion, Steve Book, was busy at Delaware Speedway. In addition to Saturday's Hot Rod contest, Book entered the Friday and Sunday V8 Stock races and in his familiar No. 47 1960 Studebaker Hawk. He also competed in the Dayco Super Stock race, driving the No. 83 Radar Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro. He is yet to win a feature this year but has three heat victories. Book finished sixth after starting second at Delaware Speedway..
The top three finishers for round nine of the JRS Auction OSCAAR Hot Rod series at Delaware Speedway. On the right side is the winner, Steve McCaw. This was McCaw's first feature victory of the season after collecting two heat wins. In the middle is the runner-up, Dalen Martin. This was only Martin's third event of 2024. Rick Spencer-Walt completed the trio. Collecting a third place result in a car owned by championship contender Rob Bromley.
