The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 17-19 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 1-2 - SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 14-16 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 27-28 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 17-18 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 14-15 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire the Toyo Proxes R888.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A This category is for newer chassis built between 1995 and 2024. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The second race weekend of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series was held at Shannonville Motorsport Park during the SMP Cup event. Three contests were staged on the Long Track layout.

A field of fourteen Toyo Tires F1600 competitors head to the final corner for the start of Sunday morning’s contest. On the pole is the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15 of Connor Clubine. Sharing the front row with Clubine is Henry Knox in the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02. Immediately behind the leaders are Antonio Costantino, driving the No. 3 Piper DL7 and the No. 64 Mygale SJ14 of Johnathan Petrone.
After six rounds of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 series, the F1600A points leader, Connor Clubine, had six victories. The 2021 F1600B champion qualified on the pole for race one at Shannonville Motorsport Park in the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15. Clubine was first to the checked flag and recorded the fastest lap. Sunday morning was a repeat of the previous day, as was the afternoon, where he topped the lap chart and time sheet.
The No. 41 speedprosignshop.com Van Diemen RF91 is driven by veteran F1600B competitor Steve Bodrug. Bodrug opened 2024 with a victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and was leading the final when he spun out of contention. At the SMP Cup, he set the pace, grabbed the pole, and won on Saturday. The following day, Bodrug collected another victory. He led the final event when he was ‘meatballed’ and pulled off the circuit.
The Toyo Tires F1600A podium for the SMP Cup weekend race two at Shannonville Motorsport Park. In the center from Britain West Motorsport is the winner, Connor Clubine. After five rounds of the 2024 championship, Clubine is proving unbeatable. Standing on the right is the runner-up, Antonio Costantino, from Brian Graham Racing. Completing the rostrum is the third-place finisher, Calum Dunbar.
Henderson Knox drives the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02. Knox began his 2024 campaign with three third-place results. He kicked off the SMP Cup event by qualifying and finishing second. He was gridded on the front row for race two but retired early. His poor result in the previous contest placed him last on the starting grid for Sunday afternoon’s finale. Knox charged through the field and finished third.
Antonio Costantino was chasing Connor Clubine all weekend. Costantino, who was last year’s recipient of the Bob McCallum Sponsorship Award, drives the No. 3 Piper DL7 prepared by Brian Graham Racing.  He was third fastest in Saturday’s qualifying session and held the position throughout the twelve-lap contest. The following day, Costantino started third but inherited a runner-up result when Henderson Knox retired. In the finale, he collected another second place.
Last year’s F1600B champion, Dylan McPherson, drives the No. 27 McPherson Racing Van Diemen RF93. McPherson proved that sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. In the finale, he started third in class. With an unhealthy-sounding engine, McPherson chased Steve Bodrug and Andrew Mason. Mason began losing power and retired on lap 6. At the same time, Bodrug received the ‘meatball’ flag and pulled off the track, handing the victory to McPherson.

Standing on the top step of the rostrum and collecting his second victory of the weekend is Steve Bodrug. On the right is the runner-up, Andrew Mason. Mason also repeated his performance from the previous day. Last season’s class champion, Dylan McPherson, is rounding out the top three.
