In 2021, FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.), an automotive learning and promotion company, expanded its presence in Canadian motorsports.

FEL saw an opportunity to revitalize and reinvest in Canadian car racing. FEL’s foray into the 2017 Toyo Tires F1600 Series as a featured sponsor resulted in fields growing from twelve to fifteen entries to over thirty cars in just three years.

The company is now making its mark in the Touring and Sports Racer categories. The FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada is for vehicles prepared to GT4, TCR and TCA specifications. Various models of the purpose-built Radical SR3 sports racers compete in the Emzone Radical Cup Canada.

Emzone Radical Cup Canada drivers compete in two contests each race weekend.

  • May 17-19 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 20-23 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • July 18-21 - Honda Indy Toronto
  • August 30 - September 1 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 26-29 - Mont-Tremblant

The Emzone Radical Cup Canada series cars are built by the British manufacturer, Radical Sportscars. The company was founded by Mick Hyde and Phil Abbott in 1997. The early vehicles were road legal but were more popular as race cars. The Radicals used in the series are the SR3 model powered by an RPE - Suzuki four-cylinder Double Overhead Camshaft engine with a displacement of 1340-cc, which produces 170-rear wheel horsepower. The chassis is a space frame design with double wishbones, coil springs, adjustable shock absorbers, and roll bars. Stopping the SR3 are four-piston calipers front and rear with vented rotors. The Radicals use cast aluminum wheels fitted with 200/580/R15 tires on the front and 265/605/R16 on the rear.

New for this season is the Masters class for drivers 40-year of age and older. The class has a separate Masters championship

Emzone Radical Cup Canada competitors competed in three races as a support event to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto event. Drivers would race around the eleven-turn 1.755-mile temporary street circuit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend also included the Radical Cup North America series. The two divisions were combined, resulting in an entry list of thirty-nine cars.

The Emzone Radical Cup Canada, presented by Michelin, podium for race two at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. On the top step is the winner, Kenny Riedmann, who swept the weekend’s proceedings. Riedmann’s efforts in Toronto moved him to the top of the championship standings with four rounds remaining. On the right is the runner-up and the series 2020 titleholder, Travis Hill. The final position is occupied by Brady Clapham.
A miscue in the series opening round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park cost Kenny Riedmann dearly. In the next three races, Riedmann chased the points leader Owen Clarke. Before the weekend in Toronto, he had one victory to Clarke’s three.  Riedmann qualified on the pole for the first contest at Exhibition Place and grabbed the victory. He delivered the same performance in the next two races and moved to the top of the standings.
The No. 07 Northwest Atlantic Motorsports sponsored Radical SR3 RSX is driven by Masters Competitor Tim Sanderson. The Masters division is for drivers 40 years of age and older. Sanderson was tied for the lead in the class standings with victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Calabogie Motorsports Park. He was victorious in the first two races at Toronto but crashed on lap 1 of the finale. Sanderson dropped to second in the points chase.
Chasing Kenny Riedmann all weekend was Travis Hill. Hill pilots the No. 22 Shopify Radical SR3 XXR. The series inaugural champion did not compete in any of the Emzone Radical Cup Canada races last season. In addition to his three runner-up finishes at Toronto’s Exhibition Place, Hill has second and third place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and a pair of fourths at Calabogie Motorsports Park. He is third in the standings.
When Tim Sanderson faltered in Sunday’s race, Robert Burgess, the principal of Radical Canada—East, was there to capitalize. Burgess entered Toronto tied for the lead in the Masters division with Sanderson—each driver had a pair of victories and runner-up results. The driver of the No. 2 Radical Canada SR3 XXR ended the weekend with a win and two second-place finishes, which moved him into the points lead.
The Emzone Radical Cup Canada, presented by Michelin, Masters podium for Saturday’s race two at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. In the center is the winner, Tim Sanderson. With his victory on Friday, Sanderson broke the tie for the lead in the class standings with Robert Burgess. Standing on the right is the runner-up, Burgess. The final position on the rostrum belongs to Robert Sobol. This was Sobol’s best result to date.
