The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 17-19 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 1-2 - SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 14-16 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 27-28 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 17-18 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 14-15 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A - This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2024. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B - This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The fourth weekend of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship, held during the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, saw drivers collect points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

At the start of Sunday morning’s race, twenty Toyo Tires F1600 competitors file through Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s corner one. The polesitter, Henderson Know, leads the field, driving the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02. Immediately behind Knox is the No. 64 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ14 of the third-place starter, Johnathan Petrone. Beside Petrone is Saturday’s winner, Antonio Costantino, in the No. 3 BGR / Piper Race Cars Piper DL7.
After nine rounds of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 season, somebody finally beat Connor Clubine. Brian Graham Racing’s Antonio Costantino qualified fourth for Saturday’s contest. By lap 4, the driver of the No. 3 Piper DL7 was in second, and seven circuits moved into the lead for the victory. However, it wasn’t easy as a hard-changing Clubine finished second by a margin of 0.006 seconds. On Sunday, Constantino collected second and third-place results.
All good things must come to an end, and that was the case for Connor Clubine. After nine consecutive victories, the 2021 F1600B champion’s win streak ended. Clubine put the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale JS15 on the pole for race one. However, a miscue on lap 10 sent him to second place. He charged back but came up short. On Sunday, Clubine redeemed himself with a pair of wins and leads the title chase by seventy-five points.
F1600B competitor Dylan McPherson has three class wins 2024, driving the No. 27 McPherson Racing Van Diemen RF93. In race one of the weekend, the early season points leader added another victory. The category polesitter, Steve Bodrug, retired and a pass on Andrew Mason earned McPherson the win. The following morning, he was passed by Bodrug to finish second and in the finale, McPherson chased Bodrug to a runner-up result.
The first lap through Moss Corner for the final contest of the weekend. The polesitter, Connor Clubine, is in the lead, driving the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15. Behind Clubine is the other front-row starter, Henderson Knox, in the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02. Trailing Knox is the No. 67 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ12 of Stewart Ross, who was gridded in the fourth position and Johnathan Petrone in the No. 64 Mygale SJ14.
Despite having some challenges, Steve Bodrug has six F1600B wins in 2024. Some of his bad luck returned for race one at the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races. An incident on the opening lap eliminated the No. 41 speedprosignshop.com Van Diemen RF91 driver. Without a time from the weekend’s first race, Brodrug started last Sunday morning but advanced ten positions for the class win. Later in the day, he won again.
It appears that a pattern is being set in this year’s F1600A category of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship. At each event, the same three drivers – Connor Clubine, Antonio Costantino and Henderson Knox – have finished on the class podium. The only time this wasn’t the case happened in race two at Shannoville Motorsport Park when Callum Dunbar finished third. At this event, Knox earned a runner-up and two third-place results.
F1600B competitor Andrew Mason has been rewarded by delivering consistent results. By the end of the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races, Mason was third in the class standing, just twenty-six markers behind the points leader, Steve Bodrug. The No. 32 Mason Racing Van Diemen RF90 driver qualified third and finished second in race one. On Sunday morning, Mason started and finished second. Later that afternoon, he was third.
