The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 17-19 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 1-2 - SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 14-16 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 27-28 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 17-18 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 14-15 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A - This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2024. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B - This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The third weekend of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix event. Drivers would collect points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of Sunday morning's contest and, twenty-four Toyo Tires F1600 competitors exit Canadian Tire Motorsport's turn one. Yesterday's winner, Connor Clubine, leads the pack in the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15. Trailing Clubine is the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02 of Henderson Know, and Antonio Costantino is driving the No. 3 Piper DL7. Unfortunately, three drivers wouldn't make it to corner two.
In nine starts, Connor Clubine has as many victories. The points leader drives the No. 6 Mygale SJ15 prepared by Britain West Motorsport. Clubine qualified on the pole for the weekend's first contest and went flag-to-flag for the win. In the process, he set the fastest race lap. On Sunday morning, Clubine never relinquished first place. In the afternoon, he started second but grabbed the lead on lap 1 and was first to the checkered flag.
One of the two drivers threatening Connor Clubine's domination is Antonio Costantino, who drives the No. 3 Piper DL7 prepared by Brian Graham Racing. He qualified third for Saturday's race and passed Henderson Knox before losing the position to Knox. Costantino started third in race two but made a pass on Knox that stuck this time and, in the process, set the fastest lap. He started the finale on the pole but lost the lead to Clubine and finished second.
Lap one through Moss corner for the final race of the weekend. Second-place starter Connor Clubine in the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15 has already moved past the pole-sitter, Antonio Costantino. Trailing Clubine is the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7 driven by Constantino. Behind Constantino is Henry Knox in the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02 and his teammates Parker Gill and Alexander Searle.
Another competitor showing tremendous promise this season that could end Connor Clubine's win streak is Henderson Knox. The No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02 driver qualified second fastest for Saturday's contest. He lost the position to Antonio Constantino at the beginning of the race but took it back on the final lap. In race two, Knox started second but could not hold off Constantino. He ended the weekend with another third place.
The F1600B category belonged to Steve Bodrug. The series veteran, who debuted in 2007, drivers the No. 41 speedprosignshop.com Van Diemen RF91. Bodrug started the event by qualifying fourth in class but moved into the lead early and claimed the F1600B victory. In the next contest, he led from start to finish. Bodrug was on the category pole for the finale and grabbed his third win of the weekend.
On Sunday morning, an incident on the opening lap eliminated three drivers. Before they got to corner one, there was contact between the No. 56 KTS Racing Van Diemen RF90 of Kari Salo and Mike Lee driving the No. 25 Van Diemen. Also involved and getting the worst was Sean Johnston in the No. 8 Britain West Motorsport Van Diemen RF92, who hit the outside wall. Salo and Lee returned for the finale.
