The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 17-19 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 1-2 - SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 14-16 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 27-28 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 17-18 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 14-15 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A – This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2024. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B – This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The first weekend of the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Victoria Day Speedfest event. Drivers would collect points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The first lap of round two for the 2024 Toyo Tires F1600 Champion and twenty-four competitors funnel into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's corner one. The race one winner and pole-sitter, Connor Clubine, leads the pack in the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15. Immediately behind Clubine is the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02, driven by Henderson Knox. Beside Knox is Saturday's runner-up, Antonia Costantino.
Connor Clubine didn't compete very much last year. However, his absence from the series hasn't slowed the 2021 F1600B champion. Clubine qualified second for the season's opening round in the No. 6 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ15. In the race, he jumped into the lead and lost the top spot before collecting the victory. On Sunday morning, Clubine went flag-to-flag for the win. In the finale, he battled with Antonio Costantino for the victory.
Back at Brian Graham Racing was last year's recipient of the Bob McCallum Sponsorship Award, Antonio Costantino. Costantino, who finished fourth in last year's standing, drove the No. 3 Piper DL7. On Saturday morning, he earned the pole for the opener. Later that day, Costantino finished second to Connor Clubine and did the same Sunday morning.  However, in the final contest, he exchanged the lead with Clubine four times before finishing second.
Steve Bodrug won the F1600B category in the season opener. The veteran Bodrug made his first series start in 2007. He finished third in last year's championship despite missing the second weekend of racing. In 2024, Bodrug is campaigning the No. 41 speedprosignshop.com Van Diemen RF91. On Sunday, Bodrug started on the class pole but lost positions to Dylan McPherson and Andrew Mason to finish third. In the afternoon, issues resulted in an eighth-place result.
Despite limited participation in 2023, Henderson Knox earned a third-place finish at Calabogie Motorsport Park. Knox qualified third for this season's opening race, driving the No. 48 RHEA Group Van Diemen RF02. He jumped to second on lap-1 but finished third. On Sunday morning, Knox started and finished in the third spot. In the afternoon, he started on the outside of the pole and would move into the lead. By the second circuit, Knox was back in third and maintained the position until the checkered flag.
Dylan McPherson, who drives the No. 27 McPherson Van Diemen RF93, was last year's Toyo Tires F1600 B champion. In qualifying, McPherson was twelfth fastest and started third in class. During the race, he lost a position to Bill Tebbutt and finished third. In round two, McPherson was gridded third in F1600B but passed Steve Bodrug and Andrew Mason for the win. In the final race of the weekend, he passed Mason on the last lap in the final turn for the victory.
The No. 32 Mason Racing Van Diemen RF93 is driven by series veteran Andrew Mason. Mason was tenth fastest in qualifying and started behind the F1600B pole-sitter, Steve Bodrug. He was no match for Bodrug and claimed a runner-up result. Mason found himself starting second to Bodrug in the weekend's second contest. He passed Bodrug but lost a spot to Dylan McPherson for another second-place finish. Sunday afternoon ended with the same results as the morning.
