In 2014, the FIA introduced the Formula 4 concept globally to bridge the gap between karting and open-wheel racing. The Sports Car Club of America created the Formula 4 United States Championship in 2016. The series has grown rapidly in popularity due to its affordability and competitiveness.

In 2024, the series transitioned to the new Ligier JS F422 chassis and Ligier Storm power, rendering the previous model obsolete.

The Formula 4 United States Championship is part of a ladder system. The winner of the Driver's Championship will receive a scholarship to compete in the 2025 FR Americas series. Also included is the lease of an engine and Ligier JS F3 chassis from Ligier Automotive. There are also awards for the second and third-place finishers in the title chase. Finally, the series provides cash payouts and prizes at each race.

The series includes an impressive alumni list, including Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukus, Benjamin Peterson, Ernie Francis Jr., and Linus Lundqvist.

The 2024 Formula 4 United States Championship consists of five weekends, with three races at each venue.

  • May 16-19 – Road America
  • June 20-23 – Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
  • July 25-28 – New Jersey Motorsports Park
  • August 29 - September 1 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • October 31 - November 3 – Circuit of the Americas

Rounds nine, ten and eleven of the 2024 Formula 4 United States Championship were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course in an event presented by the Mosport Karting Centre.

The pace lap for race nine of the 2024 Formula 4 United States Championship and five competitors enter Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's final turn. On the pole is the No. 15 AGI Sport Ligier JS F422 of Nicolas Stati. Next Stati is Daniel Quimby driving the No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways Ligier JS F422. Row two is occupied by the Ligier JS F422s of the third and fourth-fastest qualifiers, Connor Roberts and Alex Crosbie.
Earlier in the season, Daniel Quimby obtained valuable track time at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when he participated in a regional race event. It must have paid off as the driver of the No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways Ligier JS F422 dominated the weekend's proceedings. Quimby was the fastest qualifier, and with the exception of race two, he went flag-to-flag for his victories. He now sits 5.5 points out of first place in the championship.
At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Connor Roberts, driver of the No. 46 ApexSpeed.com / Entropy Cellars Ligier JS F422, matched his season's best performance. Roberts qualified and finished third in the weekend's first race. Unfortunately, there was an extended red flag period and he was only awarded half points. In round ten, Roberts finished second after starting third.  In the finale, he moved from fourth to collect another runner-up result.
It appeared that the championship leader, Nicolas Stati, may be a threat to Daniel Quimby's weekend dominance. Stati, in the No. 15 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsports-prepared Ligier JS F422, set the fastest lap in race one and finished 0.438 seconds behind Quimby. He led the first three laps of round ten, but a mistake resulted in a fourth-place finish. On Sunday morning, Stati started and finished third; however, he is still at the top of the standings.
New Zealand's Alex Crosbie's title aspirations took a hit at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when his engine failed on the pace lap of the weekend's first race. With repairs made to the No. 41 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422, Crosbie started Saturday's afternoon contest in fourth place. An error by Nicolas Stati allowed him to secure the final spot on the podium. He gridded second for round eleven but finished in fourth position.
