2024 marks the tenth season of the very successful United Racing Series.

The 2024 APC United Late Model championship kicks off on the Victoria Day weekend at Sunset Speedway with a race called the Dayco 100. In early June, the teams make the first of two stops at Flamboro Speedway for the Spectra Premium 100. In the middle of June, the Peterborough 100 is held at Peterborough Speedway. On the Canada Day weekend, drivers compete at Delaware Speedway during the NTN BCA 100. The next race sees the championship make its final appearance at Flamboro Speedway for the London Recreational Racing 100. Then in early August teams compete at Sauble Speedway. Round seven, called the Stewart's / Kubota 200, will take place at Sunset Speedway. The penultimate event of 2024 is at Sauble Speedway and is titled the Stewart's / Kubota 100. Titles are determined on September 7th at Delaware Speedway in Castrol's Great Canadian 300.

The series rules remain unchanged from last season, with the cars constructed to specifications and controls common to most stock car series. The chassis is a tube frame covered with fiberglass bodies. A car can weigh as much as 2800-lbs depending on the engine choice. Crate motors from General Motors (GM 604 & GM 602) and Ford (347) are used in the series. Competitors use a spec tire from American Racer and Bilstein A2 shock absorbers to regulate expenses. There are also rules restricting the options for transmissions, ignition components, body material, brakes, etc.

To determine the starting order of the race, drivers participate in a qualifying session. The five fastest qualifiers selected starting positions one through five during a random draw. Before each race, the cars receive a technical inspection and are impounded until the start of the event.

A new restart procedure was introduced in 2023 by series officials for the APC United Late Model and Dayco Super Stock divisions called the 'choose rule.' On restarts, competitors are allowed to choose their lane. Their selection may be determined by the condition of the track, how many cars are ahead of them or the handling of their vehicle. If a driver changes their choice after the designated 'choose spot,' they must start from the rear of the field.

A special announcement for this season is the NTN BCA Bearings Triple Crown. Three marquee events, held at August 3rd at Sauble Speedway (150 laps), August 10th at Sunset Speedway (200 laps) and September 7th at Delaware Speedway (300 laps). The three-race mini-series has a prize fund of $15,000. First place pays $3,500, second $2,500, third $2,000 and fourth thru tenth $1,000.

The final weekend of the APC United Late Model Series was held at Delaware Speedway during the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Drivers competed in three one-hundred laps segments around the ½-mile semi-banked asphalt oval in the Castrol 300.

A rain delay on race day resulted in a compacted schedule, with the contest beginning approximately an hour after the planned starting time and finishing four hours later.

Twenty-seven APC United Late Model competitors enter Delaware Speedway’s corner one for the first lap of the Castrol 300. On the pole is Connor Pritiko in the No. 19 Domus Developments Chevrolet Camaro. Beside Pritiko is the No. 17 Canadian Flat Roof Systems Toyota Camry driven by Josh Stade. Behind the leaders are Ray Morneau in the LiUNA! Ford Mustang and the No. 3 APC Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS of Shae Gemmell.
The winner of the Castrol 300 at Delaware Speedway was Connor Pritiko. Pritiko qualified sixth fastest but started on the pole after the inversion. The driver of the No. 19 Domus Developments Chevrolet Camaro remained in contention during the contest. With about thirty laps remaining, Pritiko moved into the lead and pulled away for his first APC United Late Model victory. The team donated the $10,000 winner’s purse to London’s Victoria Hospital.
2022 Great Canadian Race winner Shae Gemmell finished in the runner-up position. Gemmell started in fourth for the three-hundred-lap contest. He moved into the lead early in the No. 3 APC Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS but lost the spot on lap 105 to Cayden Lapcevich. An incident sent Gemmell to the rear of the field; however, he charged to first place. He lost the lead on lap 30 and finished second by a margin of 0.863 seconds.
Josh Stade started on the outside of the front row after recording the fastest lap in qualifying. The No. 17 Canadian Flat Roof Systems Toyota Camry led early but surrendered the position to Shae Gemmell. During the second segment, Stade moved back into the lead and would race with Cayden Lapcevich. When Lapcevich’s engine failed, he retook first place; however, Stade could not hold off challenges from Gemmell or Connor Pritiko and finished third.

This was Pritiko’s first victory in the APC United Late Model Series. In a generous move, his team donated the $10,000 winner’s share to London’s Victoria Hospital’s Children’s Health Foundation. On the left is the runner-up, Shae Gemmell. Completing the top three is Josh Stade.
NASCAR Canada competitor D.J. Kennington joined the APC United Late Model competitors driving the No. 28 Castrol-sponsored Toyota Camry. Kennington was the seventeenth fastest during the time trials. In the race, he used his years of experience at Delaware Speedway and exhibited the skills that earned him two NASCAR championships to advance twelve positions and finish fifth. The next day, Kennington was third in NASCAR’s Delaware 200.
Another driver performing double duty was Cayden Lapcevich. Lapcevich was entered in a Glenn Styres Racing Chevrolet Camaro for the NASCAR Canada event and drove the No. 41 Holdaway Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet SS in the Castrol 300. The 2016 NASCAR Canada champion qualified ninth fastest but was in second place before the end of the first segment. With seventy-eight laps to go, the engine failed, resulting in a fifteenth-place finish.
The reigning APC United Late Model champion, Kyle Steckly, qualified eighth fastest in the No. 22 APC Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS. Steckly simply needed to start the Castrol 300 to collect his second consecutive title. During the race, he charged to the front and challenged the leader, Cayden Lapcevich. Contact between the two damaged his car. Steckly soldiered on and collected a seventh-place finish and his second crown.
Connor Pritiko may have won the season finale battle, but Kyle Steckly won the war. A record in 2024 that included wins at Flamboro Speedway, Delaware Speedway and two victories at Sauble Speedway contributed to Steckly’s second consecutive APC United Late Model Championship. In addition, the driver of the No. 22 Auto Parts Centres Chevrolet SS won the NTN BCA Bearing Triple Crown for his performance at three marquee events.
