In 2021, FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.), an automotive learning and promotion company, expanded its presence in Canadian motorsports.

FEL saw an opportunity to revitalize and reinvest in Canadian car racing. As a featured sponsor, FEL’s foray into the 2017 Toyo Tires F1600 Series resulted in fields growing from twelve to fifteen entries to over thirty cars in just three years.

The company was now ready to make its mark in the Touring and Sports Racer categories. The new FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada is for vehicles prepared to GT4 and TCR specifications. Various models of the purpose-built Radical SR3 sports racers compete in the FEL Cup Canada.

Two classes participate in the FEL Motorsports 2022 Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin – GT4 and TCR.

  • GT4 – These cars are prepared to the SRO (Stephane Ratel Organisation) GT4 technical specifications. The quicker of the two groups, this class includes cars such as the Ford Mustang GT4, BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG, Audi R8 and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Vehicles competing in this division produce between 400 - 450 horsepower and are capable of speeds over 175-mph.
  • TCR - This class is based on the global touring car category TCR. Vehicles racing in this group include the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, Honda Civic TCR, Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR and Audi RS3 LMS TCR. They use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which will produce between 300 – 350-horsepower.

There are six events and each race weekend consists of two forty-minute contests.

  • May 20-22 - Canadian Tire Motorsport
  • June 3-5 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • July 15-17 - Honda Indy Toronto
  • August 5-7 - Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres
  • August 19-21 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • September 2-4 - Canadian Tire Motorsport

The final rounds of the 2022 FEL Sports Car Championship Canada were conducted during the CTMP Labour Day Weekend Sprints at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete in two races around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

To add to the excitement of the event, double points were awarded.

The first lap through Moss Corner for the penultimate round of the 2022 FEL Sports Car Championship Canada. The pole-sitter, Jerimy Daniel, leads the way in the No. 10 Fix Auto Audi RS3 LMS. Behind Daniel is his rival for the TCR title, Jean-Francois Hevey, driving the No. 21 HD Maintenance Audi RS3 LMS. Following the TCR leaders is the No. 56 SH Karting/SODI Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Charles Robin.
Jerimy Daniel did the unthinkable by qualifying on the overall pole and being the first driver across the finish line in the final rounds of the 2022 FEL Sports Car Championship Canada. Daniel gave notice early in the weekend by topping the timesheets in both practice sessions. In the Saturday and Sunday contests, he went flag-to-flag for the victories. He won five of ten TCR races on the way to the 2022 title.
The 2022 season began with Anthony Polito driving the No. 22 Polito Ford Lincoln Ford Mustang GT4. At Calabogie Motorsport Park, he vacated the seat in favour of his son, Jack, who was a front runner in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship. Jack qualified fourth overall and second in GT4 for the weekend's first contest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and grabbed the class victory. He repeated this feat on Sunday.
Entering the final weekend, there were two contenders for the TCR crown – Jerimy Daniel and Jean-Francois Hevey. Hevey trailed Daniel by forty-two markers, but with double points on the line, the title was still wide open. He qualified beside Daniel for Saturday's contest and chased him to the finish line. It was the same scenario in the finale. The No. 10 Audi RS3 LMS driver finished second in the championship.
The GT4 title would be decided during the final weekend. Two drivers, Zachary Vanier and Charles Robin, like the TCR class, would be vying for the championship. Driving the No. 56 Rilli Racing Mercedes AMG GT4, Robin didn't collect any victories during the season; however, he consistently finished in the top three. Robin was twenty-four markers behind Vanier, but with both drivers delivering the same results, Robin finished second.
With the exception of Toronto, Zachary Vanier dominated the GT4 class for much of the season. The driver of the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports McLaren 570s collected six class victories before the final weekend. His twenty-four-point advantage over Charles Robin meant the title was still in jeopardy, especially when double points were awarded. However, with both drivers producing the same results, Vanier took the title.
