In 2021, FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.), an automotive learning and promotion company, expanded its presence in Canadian motorsports.

FEL saw an opportunity to revitalize and reinvest in Canadian car racing. As a featured sponsor, FEL’s foray into the 2017 Toyo Tires F1600 Series resulted in fields growing from twelve to fifteen entries to over thirty cars in just three years.

The company was now ready to make its mark in the Touring and Sports Racer categories. The new FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada is for vehicles prepared to GT4 and TCR specifications. Various models of the purpose-built Radical SR3 sports racers compete in the FEL Cup Canada.

Two classes participate in the FEL Motorsports 2022 Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin – GT4 and TCR.

  • GT4 – These cars are prepared to the SRO (Stephane Ratel Organisation) GT4 technical specifications. The quicker of the two groups, this class includes cars such as the Ford Mustang GT4, BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG, Audi R8 and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Vehicles competing in this division produce between 400 - 450 horsepower and are capable of speeds over 175-mph.
  • TCR - This class is based on the global touring car category TCR. Vehicles racing in this group include the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, Honda Civic TCR, Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR and Audi RS3 LMS TCR. They use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which will produce between 300 – 350-horsepower.

There are six events and each race weekend consists of two forty-minute contests.

  • May 20-22 - Canadian Tire Motorsport
  • June 3-5 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • July 15-17 - Honda Indy Toronto
  • August 5-7 - Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres
  • August 19-21 - Calabogie Motorsport Park
  • September 2-4 - Canadian Tire Motorsport

The FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada was scheduled to kickoff rounds one and two of the 2022 season at the Castro Victoria Day Speedfest.

Unfortunately, before Saturday`s race could be held, a severe storm moved through the area causing damage to the track and cutting power to some parts of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The weekend`s first race was canceled.

In addition to the weather damaging some of the series equipment, it also left the teams with an extensive clean-up and for some repairs to their transporters and cars.

A decision was made by FEL officials to forgo Sunday`s contest.
