In 2021, FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.), an automotive learning and promotion company, expanded its presence in Canadian motorsports.

FEL saw an opportunity to revitalize and reinvest in Canadian car racing. FEL’s foray into the 2017 Toyo Tires F1600 Series as a featured sponsor resulted in fields growing from twelve to fifteen entries to over thirty cars in just three years.

The company was now ready to make its mark in the Touring and Sports Racer categories. The new FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada is for vehicles prepared to GT4 and TCR specifications. Various models of the purpose-built Radical SR3 sports racers compete in the FEL Cup Canada.

Two classes are participating in the FEL Motorsports 2021 Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin – Grand Touring 4 and Touring Car Canada.

  • Grand Touring 4 (GT4) – These cars are prepared to the SRO (Stephane Ratel Organisation) GT4 technical specifications. The quicker of the two groups, this class includes cars such as the Ford Mustang GT4, BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG, Audi R8 and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Vehicles competing in this division produce between 400 - 450 horsepower and are capable of speeds over 175-mph.
  • Touring Car Canada (TCC) - This class is based on the global touring car category TCR. Vehicles racing in this group include the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, Honda Civic TCR, Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR and Audi RS3 LMS TCR. They use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which will produce between 300 – 350-horsepower.

Each weekend consists of two forty-minute contests. The inaugural season kicks off in June at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the 41st VARAC Vintage Grand Prix. A month later, the series returns to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in conjunction with the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races. This event is followed by the championship’s only visit to Calabogie Motorsport Park. Then the series travels to Quebec to compete at ICAR Mirabel as part of the NASCAR weekend. Teams are in action again for their penultimate event, on the Labour Day Weekend, at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The Celebration of Motorsports at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will be the series finale.

Rounds three and four of the 2021 FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in conjunction with the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races. Drivers competed in two forty-minute races around the ten turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of round three for the 2021 FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada was held in less than ideal conditions. Leading the field of thirteen entrants into corner one at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is the pole-winning No. 22 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 of Marco Signoretti. Trailing Signoretti is the other front-row qualifier, Louis-Philippe Montour, driving the No. 45 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Marco Signoretti kept his winning streak alive at the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races weekend. Signoretti swept the opening event, capturing the overall and GT4 class honours in the No. 22 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4. In the rain on Saturday, he won by a margin of 6.061-seconds. The following day, Signoretti was challenged for the overall victory but claimed first place.
Rounds three and four provided Travis Hill and his team an opportunity to redeem themselves after failing to score any points in race two of the opening weekend. Hill qualified third in TCC for the weekend’s first contest. During the wet conditions, he was able to pass Louis-Philippe Montour and Richard Boake for the class victory. In Sunday’s shortened event, Hill placed third in the No. 26 Audi RS3 LMS.
Quebec’s Louis-Philippe Montour scored his first series victory at the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races. Montour, driving the No. 45 Kamloop Volkswagen Golf GTI, captured second and third place TCC finishes during the first two rounds. In race three of the championship, he started on the pole but finished second in class. On Sunday, Montour claimed the win and finished second overall by a margin of 0.368-seconds.
Nick Looijmans was involved in an incident at corner three during the opening round of the season. However, the No. 15 TWOth Autosport Audi RS3 LMS was repaired and he returned to finish second the next day. Looijmans qualified fourth in TCC when the series returned to Canadian Tire Motorsport and finished third in class. In Sundays, abbreviated event, he started and finished fourth in his division.
The 2019 Canadian Touring Car TCR champion, Gary Kwok, was entered in the familiar No. 66 M&S Racing prepared Honda Civic TCR. Kwok had some disappointing results in the series inaugural weekend. He failed to score points after contact in round one. With repairs made, Kwok finished fifth in class. In the second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he captured a fifth and second in class.
