The Sports Car Club of America U.S. Majors are organized to attract more competitors by providing amateur racers with a common format at each event. A race weekend consists of a 20-minute sprint race on Saturday and 45-mile event on Sunday. Sunday’s grid is determined by a competitor’s best time during qualifying or Saturday’s race. Drivers earn full points for each race. Events take place in five conferences – Mid-States, Northeast, Northern, Southeast and Western. Class champions in a conference are determined by their best results from eight races. With the 2016 National Championship Runoffs taking place in September at Mid-Ohio the event was well subscribed. The weekend featured almost 450-entries. Drivers were entered in twenty-eight classes. Classes were combined to create nine race groups – eighteen races over the two-days.
