The Formula Ford category was established in England in 1967, when the MRS driving school at Brands Hatch equipped a Lotus 51 with a Ford Cortina engine. Thanks to low costs and strict regulations, the category quickly attracted competitors and numerous car manufacturers. By the late 1960s, Formula Ford had expanded worldwide.

In Canada, Rudy and George Fejer—known for their Chinook cars in F5000, Can-Am, Formula Vee, and IndyCar—entered the Formula Ford market after they acquired Cooper Racing Cars’ stock and equipment, and in 1969, they built their first Cooper Chinook Formula Ford.

To illustrate this milestone, below is the sales brochure for the Cooper Chinook Formula Ford.
