The popular Mini Stock category provides new drivers with an opportunity to participate in an entry-level stock car class. Rules are written to keep costs to a minimum.

The Mini Stock division is open to any 2010 and older approved 4-cylinder automobile having an engine no larger than 2500cc. The cars may be front or rear-wheel drive. Rules prohibit convertibles, 4-wheel drives, trucks, BMW, Audi, Saab turbo, V-Tec, supercharged or rotary engines. Also, excluded are mid or rear-engine vehicles. The weight of the cars is determined by the engine displacement and cylinder head design.

The body must retain its stock appearance - no chopping, channeling or sectioning is allowed.

Safety is a major concern in this division. Mini Stocks are fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, five-point quick-release belts (shoulder and lap), aluminum racing seat and a window net.

Some of the makes and models typically raced by competitors include the Ford Mustang, Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra, Honda Civic and Pontiac Sunfire.

Sunset Speedway held the rescheduled 'Speed is Forever' event on Sunday, August 31. On the program were the Struyk Energy Systems Mini Stocks. The Mini Stock drivers competed in a twenty-five-lap contest around Sunset's 1/3-mile asphalt banked oval.

The pace lap for the Stuyk Energy Systems Mini Stocks at Sunset Speedway. Starting on the pole is the No. 98 Northern Transmission Ford Mustang driven by Curtis Burnett. On the outside of Burnett is Chris Allard in the No. 76C Wolf Plumbing Honda Civic. Behind the leaders are the No. 57N H&R Block Bancroft Ford Mustang of Kris Inglis and Aundrea Lusk driving the No. 17 Performance Exteriors Chevrolet Cobalt.
Will Gibbons used to be a regular at Sauble Speedway, but now he travels around the province selecting certain events. At Sunset Speedway, Gibbons started at the back of the field in the first heat race and drove through the field for the victory. In the feature, he lined up sixth in the No. 10 England Tire Honda CRX. By lap 3 of the finale, Gibbons passed the leader, Curtis Burnett, and remained in the top spot to the checkered flag.
The previous evening, Sunset Speedway held 'The Scorcher', which included the Mini Stock division. Entered in the contest was Doug Butler driving the No. 10 R.S.A. Autoparts Nissan 240SX. Butler was collecting points for track regular Ryder White and finished second. On Sunday, he returned to collect more points for White. Butler started eighth in the feature.   During the race, he followed Will Gibbons through the field to finish second.
Sunset Speedway's Stuyk Energy Systems Mini Stock points leader is Jacob Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe's most recent win came Saturday evening when he narrowly beat Doug Butler. Sutcliffe in the No. 27 MacMillan Motorsports Ford Mustang finished fourth in Sunday's first heat race. The Mustang was gridded ninth for the feature. He advanced six positions by mid-race, but was too far behind to challenge the leaders and finished third.
Jacob Sutcliffe's teammate is his brother Wyatt, who drives the No. 72 MacMillan Motorsports Ford Mustang. Wyatt is also a regular in the Stuyk Energy Systems Mini Stock and is currently third in the championship chase. He also competed in the first qualifier on Sunday and finished second to Will Gibbons. Wyatt started the twenty-five-lap feature in the seventh position. He followed his brother during the contest and eventually finished fourth.
Will Gibbons' last visit to Sunset Speedway was during the Flyin' Frank 49, where he finished third in a field of twenty-two Mini Stock competitors. The former regular at Sauble Speedway now picks and chooses events throughout Ontario. At the `Speed is Forever` event, Gibbons took the No. 10 England Tire-sponsored Honda CRX to victory in the heat and feature race.
