The cars competing in this class are purpose-built open-wheel vehicles. The Modifieds use a steel tube frame chassis, which is no less than 1-3/4-inch outside diameter with 0.095-inch wall thickness. Bodies are sheet metal, with the driver's compartment and engine bay covered. The cars may be any make or model, but they have little to no resemblance to their road-going counterparts.

The engine option selected by the car owner determines the vehicle's weight. A Modified 350-horsepower Crate Engine is the lightest at 2,600 pounds, and a car powered by a Built Motor requires 2,775 pounds. Weight may be added or removed depending on the choice of transmission.

Many other rules governing the class are for driver safety and to keep costs down.

The ‘Speed is Forever’ event had to be rescheduled due to rain and was held on Sunday, August 31. On the program was the Seaton Structures Modified division. Modified drivers competed in a thirty-lap contest around Sunset Speedway’s 1/3-mile banked asphalt oval.

The pace lap for round seven of the Seaton Structures Modified division at Sunset Speedway. On the pole for the first time is Amanda Balson in the No. 16 London Recreational Racing Modified division. On the outside of Balson is the class points leader, Wally Wilson, driving the No. 69 The Fyre Place sponsored Modified. In row two are the No. 34 Overkill Modified of TJ Edwards and Brent McLean driving the No. 14 Modified.
Amanda Balson was Sunset Speedway’s 2024 Hot Rod class champion. In the off-season, her championship-winning Camaro was sold. Balson decided to tackle a new challenge and purchased T.J. Edwards’ OSCAAR Modified. She found immediate success, collecting several second and third-place results. However, it wasn’t until the ‘Speed is Forever’ event that Balson captured her first pole and went flag-to-flag for the victory.
Finishing 0.954 seconds behind the winner, Amanda Balson was TJ Edwards. Edwards was last year’s OSCAAR Modified champion.   He sold his car to Balson to join the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model Series. But he appeared at the August 23 Sunset Modified event with a new car and grabbed the victory. At the ‘Speed is Forever’ race, Edwards qualified third fastest. He fell to fourth place in the race before passing Wally Wilson and Brent McLean to finish second.
This year, Wally Wilson is splitting his resources between Sunset Speedway’s Seaton Structures Modified division and the OSCAAR Modified Series. With three victories to his credit in 2025, Wilson leads the Seaton Structures championship. At the August 31 event, he qualified second fastest in the No. 69 Fyre Place-sponsored Modified. Wilson challenged Amanda Balson early in the contest but eventually lost the position to TJ Edwards and finished third.
To date, Amanda Balson has collected two runner-up finishes and three third-place results in the Seaton Structures Modified division. On Sunday, August 31, at the ‘Speed is Forever’ event, she grabbed her first Modified win in the No. 16 London Recreational Racing Modified. Balson is currently second in the points chase, but moved to within seventeen markers of the leader, Wally Wilson.
