The very popular Super Production Challenge, for production vehicles debuted in 2011. It has attracted large fields as the result of affordable racing, which has, in turn, generated close competition and captured the imagination of fans.

The Super Production Challenge offers amateur drivers a semi-professional environment which Auto Sport Quebec sanctions. Most races range from thirty to forty-five minutes in length.

The 2022 season consists of fourteen rounds spread over five race weekends.

  • MAY 20-21-22 - CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK
  • JUNE 4-5 - CALABOGIE MOTORSPORTS PARK
  • JULY 9-10 - ICAR
  • AUGUST 5-6-7 - GRAND-PRIX DE TROIS-RIVIÈRES
  • AUGUST 27 - ICAR

The series controls costs by limiting performance and balancing the power of different vehicles using various methods – weight, rev limiters, intake manifold restrictions and adjustments to other components. Series rules allow modifications to the engine, brakes and suspensions. All cars in the series are required to compete on Nankang AR-1 tires.

Drivers score points in one of three classes – Super Production, Production or Compact.

  • Super Production – Introduced in 2019, the larger displacement vehicles with no more than 300-horsepower compete in the Super Production group. The performance of these two-wheel-drive vehicles is monitored by GPS. Models in the category must have been produced within the past fifteen years. Cars commonly found in this division include the Nissan 370Z, Scion FRS, Honda Civic Si, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and BMW M235i.
  • Production – Performance is also monitored using GPS for vehicles competing in the Production division. They are also limited to models fifteen years of age or newer. The maximum horsepower output for these four or six-cylinder vehicles is 220. Four-cylinder engines up to two-liters may be turbocharged or supercharged. Cars often found in this class include Mini Cooper S, BMW 330i and Honda Civic Si.
  • Compact - The Compact class, introduced in 2012, is for vehicles with less the 100-horsepower. They are also monitored by GPS and subject to the same product year range requirement as the Super Production and Production categories. Included in this group are the Mini Cooper, Toyota Echo, Nissan Micra and Mazda 2.

The 2022 Super Production Challenge season kicked off on the Victoria Day weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The original schedule would see drivers collect points in three races around the ten turn 2.459-mile road course. However, a severe storm on Saturday afternoon damaged track property and caused power outages. Race two had to be canceled.

The opening lap of round one for the Super Production Challenge series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Leading a field of forty-three drivers through corner three is the No. 12 Hyundai Genesis of Jimmy Briere, who qualified fifth fastest. Under Super Production Challenge rules, the top ten starters are inverted. Behind Briere is the No. 6 Honda Civic Type R driven by Marc-Andre Bondages.
The only driver to sweep their category was Sylvain Ouellet in the Compact class. Ouellet drove the No. 99 Nissan Micra Cup with support from Automobile S. Ouellet. In the opening race of the season, he qualified thirty-ninth overall and fifth in Compact. At the end of the contest, Ouellet was thirtieth after just two laps. He advanced sixteen positions during Sunday's wet race to finish twenty-third overall.
With the inverted start being used by the Super Production Challenge series, the fifth-fastest qualifier, Jimmy Briere, was gridded in the same position for race one of the 2022 season. He wasted no time moving to the front and when the contest was red flagged, Briere was declared the winner. In the finale, the No. 12 Hyundai Genesis driver encountered issues and lost thirty-four positions to finish thirty-ninth.
The start of what would have been race three for the Super Production Challenge competitors. The storm Saturday afternoon resulted in the cancelation of round two. Leading the pack into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's first corner are the front row starters, Olivier Bedard in the No. 1 SolidXperience Nissan 370Z and the No. 11 W.O. Stinson & Son BMW 330i driven by Eric Hochgeschurz.
Local racer Nelson Chan captured the Production class victory in round one of the 2022 Super Production Challenge series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Chan was piloting the familiar No. 45 Mini Cooper JCW prepared by Equipe Octane. In a race that lasted only two laps, he started seventeenth and finished twelfth overall. Chan advanced four positions and finished third in his category the next day.
Last year's Super Production champion, Olivier Bedard, returned to the series driving the No. 1 SolidXperience / SolidXperts Nissan 370Z. To no one's surprise, he qualified on the pole for Saturday's contest. With the inverted start, Bedard was gridded down the order. When the time certain race was red flagged after two laps, he finished second. The next day, Bedard led the fifteen laps from start to finish.
In round one of the season, Production competitor Alexandre Brosseau started twenty-fourth overall and finished in the twenty-first position, which earned him an eighth in class. The wet conditions on Sunday favoured the driver of the No. 86 Powersports Garage / HMS Motorsports Honda Civic Si. Brosseau started the finale in the twenty-fourth position and was eighth at the checkered flag, with the category victory.
In addition to collecting class victories, Super Production Challenge drivers Olivier Bedard, Nelson Chan and Sylvain Ouellet finished on the podium both days. The only other competitor to capture two rostrum results was Charles-Andre Bilobeau. Bilobeau contested the Super Production category in the No. 26 Dion Herbes et Epices / Krono Ford Mustang Ecoboost. He finished third in both of the weekend's events.
In the weekend's first race, the Compact driver and winner of the class, Sylvain Ouellet, gained the most positions – nine places in the two-lap contest. On Sunday, that honour went to Gabriel Lacombe. Lacombe drove the No. 03 Empire Motorsports Honda Civic Si. He advanced thirty-three positions during the fifteen-lap event to finish tenth overall and eighth in the Super Production category.
