The Nissan Micra Cup series made its debut in 2015. The championship was designed to provide racers with the most affordable race vehicle in Canada. New for 2021, and replacing the Micra series, was the Nissan Sentra Cup. This year the grids will still include the older Micras, but the focus will be on the Sentra.

  • Nissan Sentra – Each Nissan Sentra competing in the series carries a price tag of $39,990. The Sentras were prepared by the Motorsports in Action team at St-Eustache, with the development being performed by Canadian racing veteran Jean-Francois Dumoulin. The cars are powered by a DACT four-cylinder 2.0-liter sequential multi-point fuel injection engine which produces 149-horsepower at 6,400-rpm. Some performance upgrades include four-piston front calipers, adjustable coil-overs, 18”X9” alloy wheels, braided stainless steel flex lines and a MoTec M1 Series ECM. To address safety, the Sentra Cup cars include features such as an FIA Spec six-point roll cage, FIA homologated six-point harness and FIA homologated racing seat.
  • Nissan Micra – The Micra is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine which produces 109-horsepower. For safety purposes, much of the interior (seats, door panels, etc.) is removed and a safety cage, five-point harness, window net and FIA-approved racing seat are installed. To improve the performance of the cars, they are fitted with a racing suspension kit, high-performance brake pads, Pirelli racing tires and a modified exhaust system.

Each race weekend consists of two forty-minute contests.

  • May 20-22 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 17-19 - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
  • July 22-24 - Circuit Mont-Tremblant
  • August 5-7 - Circuit de Trois-Rivières
  • September 2-4 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 23-25 - Circuit Mont-Tremblant

The penultimate weekend for the 2022 Nissan Sentra Cup was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Drivers would compete in two forty-minute contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of Sunday's Nissan Sentra Cup race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Leading the field of nineteen entrants into corner one is the pole-sitter, Simon Charbonneau, in the No. 88 TransGestion Transport Nissan Sentra. Behind Charbonneau are the Nissan Sentras of the second fastest qualifier, Alexandre Fortin and the series current points leader and third place starter, Valerie Limoges.
Rounds nine and ten of the 2022 Nissan Sentra Cup belonged to Alexandre Fortin. Fortin, driving the No. 32 Ste-Foy Nissan / Fix Auto Sentra, topped the timesheets in both practice sessions and qualified second for the weekend's events. In race one, he grabbed the lead on lap-2 for the win. The finale was more challenging as Fortin battled with Simon Charbonneau and Valerie Limoges but prevailed for the victory.
The point's leader entering and leaving rounds nine and ten at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was Valerie Limoges. Limoges has not had any victories in this year's series, but consistently finishing in the top-five and five podium results have placed her at the top of the standings. She was the third fastest qualifier at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and finished second in the weekend's first race and third on Sunday.
Sylvain Ouellet, who competes in the Senior Class for competitors 40-years and older, drove the No. 99 Ouellet Motorsport Nissan Sentra. Ouellet improved his times during practice and qualified sixth fastest. However, he moved up the order in Saturday's contest and was in third place at the checkered flag. Ouellet ended the weekend with a fourth-place result and widened his point lead in the Senior's category.
After qualifying on the pole for rounds nine and ten, it appeared that Simon Charbonneau would be the driver to beat this weekend. Charbonneau was second in the standings with victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Mont-Tremblant. Unfortunately, an error in the weekend's first race resulted in a seventh-place result. In the finale, he lost the top position and finished second.
Simon Vincent made his first start at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park driving the No. 91 Nissan Micra. In round nine, Vincent started fourteen overall and first in the Nissan Micra division. He earned the class victory while finishing thirteenth. The finale was conducted in damp conditions. Vincent advanced five places to finish ninth and earned another win. Despite competing in just four races, he was fifth in the standings.
