The Indy Pro 2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires was rebranded in 2019 and has been around in some form since 1998. The current series is the second step on the Road to Indy and bridges the gap between the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship and Indy Lights. The series champion is awarded a scholarship package valued at $614,425 to move to Indy Lights.

This division originated in the late ‘90s. Drivers completed in the Star Formula Mazda, which was powered by a Mazda 13B rotary engine. The newest car introduced for the 2022 season is the Tatuus IP-22. This car uses the latest developments in race car technology. The chassis is a full carbon composite and aluminum honeycomb monocoque that meets current FIA 2020 GEN 1 requirements. Cooper tires are mounted on Motegi alloy wheels – 13-inches in diameter X 10-inches wide on the front and 13-inches in diameter X 12-inches wide on the rear. Stopping the Tatuus are Performance Friction calipers, pads and rotors with a driver-adjustable brake bias. The car is powered by a 2-liter Mazda MZR-PM18A, which produces 275-horsepower. The power is transmitted to a Sadev SL82 six-speed sequential transmission.

The Indy Pro 2000 Championship points leader, Louis Foster, had a perfect weekend in Toronto. The driver of the No. 90 Tatuus IP-22 had four victories before the event in Toronto. Rounds thirteen and fourteen couldn’t have gone any better for Foster. He qualified on the pole for both races, led flag to flag in each event and set the fastest race lap. Foster collected 64-points which is the maximum for a weekend.
Finishing in the runner-up position on Saturday was the second fastest qualifier, Enaam Ahmed. Ahmed drove the No. 47 Tatuus IP-22 prepared by Juncos Hollinger Racing. He was third in the points chase but the only competitor in the top eight to have not scored a victory. However, consistently finishing in the top five accounted for his place in the standings. In the final race of the weekend, Ahmed started and finished seventh.
Three podium results, of which two were victories, gave Reece Gold the second position in points after twelve rounds. In the qualifying session for the weekend’s first race in Toronto, Gold was third fastest in the No. 55 The Ticket Clinic Tatuus IP-22. However, he gave up a position to Josh Green and finished fourth. On Sunday, he was gridded fourth. Gold was able to capitalize on the lap-1 multi-car incident to finish second.
Josh Green won the open round of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship and was fifth in the championship standings when the series arrived at Toronto. Green qualified fifth fastest for Saturday’s contest driving the No. 3 Turn Three Motorsport Tatuus IP-22. Passes on Reece Gold and Nolan Seigel were rewarded with a third-place finish. Green was gridded third on Sunday, but a lap-1 incident eliminated him from the race.
Yuven Sundaramoorthy drove the No. 18 Tatuus IP-22. During the qualifying session, Sundaramoorthy was seventh fastest. Issues for Braden Eves gave him a sixth-place finish. In the final race of the weekend, Sundaramoorthy started tenth. An opening lap incident involving four competitors moved him up the order. Jonathan Browne spun on lap-6 and Jordan Missig was later penalized, giving third place to Sundaramoorthy.
