The Super Stock category made their first 2019 visit to Jukasa Motor Speedway in June as a support event for the APC series. The race also served as a qualifier for Canadian Short Track Nationals where the winner would get a guaranteed berth in the Labour Day weekend event. With a purse of $39,600 - $5,000 going to the winner the Canadian Short Track Nationals attracted competitors from all over Ontario.

The Super Stock category includes a variety of makes and models from the ‘60s to the current year. The rules used in the class allow some suspension modifications and changes to the bodies. Most Street Stock cars retain the original steel bodies with plastic noses and fiberglass hoods. They are powered by a modified small-block engine or crate motors from General Motors and Ford. The division is a popular ‘stepping stone’ for those drivers who aspire to compete in the Pro Late Model category.

The feature event titled the ‘Saugeen Shores Super Stock 50’ was preceded by five heat races which would determine the starting line-up for the feature.

Forty competitors prepare to enter the final corners for the start of the fifty-lap Saugeen Shores Super Stock 50. On the pole is the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro of June’s Super Stock winner at Jukasa Motor Speedway, Trevor Collver. Sharing the front row with Collver is Lane Zardo in the Bester Forest Products sponsored Ford Mustang. These two drivers battled for the victory during the race in June with Collver taking the win.
Lane Zardo returned to Jukasa seeking redemption for his runner-up finish in June. Zardo started on the outside of the front row after winning Heat Race Two. By the third lap, he was in front of the pole-sitter, Trevor Collver. Zardo’s biggest threat came from Shawn Chenoweth, who was the fastest qualifying but started from the rear as a result of unapproved changes. Despite pressure from Chenoweth, Zardo held on for the victory.
APC competitor, Shawn Chenoweth joined the Super Stock regulars for the Saugeen Shores Super Stock 50. Chenoweth was piloting the Chevrolet Camaro driven by last year’s winner, Andrew Kamrath. Chenoweth was fastest in qualifying and won his heat race. Unfortunately, he had to change the Camaro’s transmission before the race which, required him to start at the rear. In an impressive drive, Chenoweth finished second.
Trevor Collver started second and finished first in the Super Stock race at Jukasa in June. This feat earned him a guaranteed spot in the Saugeen Shores Super Stock 50. After winning his heat race, Collver was slated to start the fifty-lap event in third place but when Shawn Chenoweth dropped to the rear of the field, he inherited the pole. Collver would lose positions to Lane Zardo and Chenoweth for a third-place finish.
Another driver to win his heat race was Brandon McFerran. McFerran driving the No. 31 Peter D. Laird sponsored Chevrolet finished eighth at the Super Stock support race in June. On the Labour Day weekend, he was gridded in the fourth position. McFerran maintained the pace of the lead group. He ran a solid third until he was passed late in the contest by a Shawn Chenoweth. At the finish, McFerran was in fourth place.
The winner of the final Heat Race was Brandon Passer. Passer was one of many drivers at the Canadian Short Track Nationals that competed in the June ‘Prelude to the Nationals’ event at Jukasa Motor Speedway to gain some valuable track time. At that race, he earned a third-place finish driving the No. 52 Chevrolet with support from Simcoe Barge. Passer was gridded fifth for the start of the feature and finished fifth.
Former NASCAR Canadian Tire driver, Kent Nuhn was entered in the No. 47L Chevrolet Camaro with backing from Kenorus Campground and RV Resort. Nuhn competed in the NASCAR series from 2007 to 2010 with his best result being an eighth-place finish at Cayuga International Speedway in 2008. Nuhn was gridded eleventh at Jukasa Motor Speedway and a consistent run netted him a sixth-place finish.

To Zardo’s right is second-place finisher and fastest qualifier, Shawn Chenoweth. Chenoweth drove a brilliant race from the last position on the starting grid. And, rounding out the top-three is the June winner, Trevor Collver.
