Interest in a series for high-performance race cars led to the inaugural Canadian Supercar event in 2012 at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. Based on the success of the first weekend, the organizers of the Canadian Touring Car Championship developed a rules package and scheduled four doubleheader weekends for the 2013 season. This series would be called the Canadian Supercar Series.

To increase the number of entrants and ensure parity between the cars, series officials created two classes.

  • Super 1 (S1) – (Red window banner) - This category is for the more powerful exotics and includes the Acura NSX, Dodge Viper, Ferrari 458 and Porsche GT3. Many of the cars in this group also participate in single-make series such as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada.
  • Super 2 (S2) – (White window banner) - This is the slower of the two divisions. Vehicles competing in the class include the Audi S4, BMW M3, Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang and Porsche Cayman.

The four-weekend schedule starts at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the track’s Speedfest event.

  • May 18-19 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 6-7 – Circuit ICAR
  • August 9-11 – Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres
  • September 7-8 – Calabogie Motorsports Park

The 2013 Canadian Supercar Series’ opening rounds were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the track’s annual Victoria Day Speedfest. Drivers would compete in two heat races around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The first lap through Moss Corner for round one of the 2013 Canadian Supercar Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Leading the field is the pole-sitter, Guy Leclerc, in the No. 91 Ferrari F458 Challenge. Trailing Leclerc is the other front row starter, Martin Burrowes, driving the No. 46 INXS Motorsports Ferrari F430 Challenge. Following Burrowes are the Ferrari F430s of Tony Ferraro and Robert Metka.
The winner of round one of the 2013 Canadian Supercar Series was Guy Leclerc driving the No. 91 Ferrari F458 Challenge. Leclerc qualified on the pole and led the twenty-one-lap contest flag-to-flag. On Sunday, he was gridded in the top spot but could not defend his position against a hard-charging Frank Fusillo also piloting a Ferrari F458. First and second places finishes in the season opener gave Leclerc the points lead.
The second Ferrari F458 Challenge entry was driven by Frank Fusillo. Fusillo’s Canadian Supercar Series debut did not go well. He was fifth fastest during the qualifying session and the slowest among the Super 1 competitors. In Saturday’s contest, ‘it went from bad to worse’ as he finished last, completing only eleven laps. However, in the finale, Fusillo bounced back and moved from last place to capture the victory.
The versatile Simon Dion-Viens was splitting his time between the Canadian Supercar Series and a limited schedule of NASCAR Canadian Tire events. Dion-Viens competed in the Super 2 category driving the No. 17 Dion-Viens prepared Chevrolet Corvette C5. He swept the weekend’s proceedings, qualifying on the class pole both days and leading each race from start to finish and beating his competition by a one-lap margin.
The best of the rest in the Super 1 group was Martin Burrowes. Burrowes was campaigning the No. 46 INXS Motorsports Ferrari F430 Challenge. The F430 is equipped with a 4.3-liter V8 motor, whereas the F458 models used by Guy Leclerc and Frank Fusillo are fitted with a 4.5-liter V8 motor. With this displacement and power disadvantage, Burrowes claimed second and third-place finishes in his category.
