In December 2009, SCCA Pro Racing announced the formation of the Formula Enterprises Pro Series in conjunction with fellow subsidiary SCCA Enterprises. Beginning in 2010, the series ran ten races over five weekends and, at the conclusion of the season, crowned Sean Rayhall as the champion.

The Formula Enterprises (FE) car was introduced in 2002 and reached National status in 2008. The cars are a Van Diemen DP06. They feature a spec-frame tube chassis, Formula 1-style high front nose and adjustable front and rear wings. The cars are powered by a sealed four-cylinder 2.0-liter Mazda MZR engine, which produces 170-horsepower. The Formula Enterprises races on spec Hoosier tires. The entire package weighs 1,250-pounds.

The 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series schedule consisted of five doubleheader weekends beginning in May at Virginia International Raceway and ending at Road Atlanta in early November.

  • May 13-15 - Virginia International Raceway
  • May 20-22 - Mosport International Raceway
  • September 2-4 - Brainerd International Raceway
  • September 16-18 - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
  • November 4-6 - Road Atlanta

Rounds three and four of the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series were held at Mosport International Raceway. Drivers would compete in two contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of round three for the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series at Mosport International Raceway. Leading the field of eleven starters is the pole-sitter, Scott Rettich, in the No. 17 PDI Communications Formula Enterprises. Immediately behind Rettich is the third fastest qualifier, Matt Schneider, driving the No. 31 Jay Motorsports Formula Enterprises. Beside Schneider is Patrick Gallagher.
Scott Rettich finished second in last season’s SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series. His hopes of winning this year’s title got off to an excellent start when he won the opening rounds at Virginia International Raceway. At Mosport, the No. 17 Formula Enterprises driver earned the pole for Saturday’s contest and captured the victory. He started ninth in round four but grabbed a first-place finish.
Patrick Gallagher is Scott Rettich’s biggest challenger in this season’s SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series. Gallagher almost won last year’s F500 championship at Road America. He opened his 2011 campaign with a pair of runner-up results at Virginia International Raceway. At Mosport, Gallagher started and finished second on Saturday. He led the first fifteen-laps in the finale before collecting another second place.
The No. 31 Jay Motorsports prepared Formula Enterprises was driven by Matt Schneider. Schneider also participated in last year’s Runoffs and qualified second in the Formula Enterprises category but finished eighth. He started and finished in the fifth spot at Virginia International Raceway on both days. Schneider qualified and finished third in round three. On Sunday, he started seventh but finished in the fourth spot.
Like Gallagher and Schneider, Jim Libecco was another competitor with some success at the Runoffs. In 2007, Libecco qualified nineteenth but finished third in the F500 category. He opened this season with a pair of fourth-place results at Virginia International Raceway. Libecco qualified fifth for the weekend’s first race at Mosport but crashed on lap-3. He redeemed himself the next day with a third-place result.
The podium for round three of the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series at Mosport International Raceway. Standing on the top step is the winner and current points leader, Scott Rettich. On the left side of the rostrum is Patrick Gallagher, who finished in the runner-up position and sat second in the title chase. The final place of the podium is occupied by third-place finisher Matt Schneider.
